Arizona Chickens

Question about one of my black Australorps. Matilda's comb has some black in it. My other two Australorps have entirely yellow combs. Will Matilda's comb be all red when she's grown, or will it still have black in it?

It will be red. Mine had some little light colored speckles when she was young but she's all red now :)

It's not about luring them to roost. It's about getting them into the coop, so they don't roost in the trees.
Five is still terrifying the Alohas, so they need some convincing to get into the coop with her.

It seem's that your aloha's don't go in because Five isn't letting them go in. You might have to do something with Five.

It will be red, but it could also retain a hint of the darker pigment. I have a 4 year old Australorp like that. I actually thought at one point, "Oh no! There's mold growing on her comb!" Nope....just pigment.

Any AZ chicken people out there? I am looking for some advice on raising chicks in the desert. I'm in Mesa. Does it get too hot out here? I have four 20 day old chicks, 3 Buff Orps and 1 leghorn. Do we need to do anything special here

I've had chickens in Casa Grande for the last 9 years. I've lost a few older ladies top the heat, but I think it eased just their time

Yes I am alive and well!!!! Took the kiddos to Durango to ride the Durango/Silverton train for fall break! About froze our butts off and it rained/snowed almost the whole week! My friend took care of my chickes and horses. In payment she got all their eggs! Such a great payoff! My five little babies are growing super fast. I’m thinking maybe all girls too! Miss Foofy has decided they are her babies and has to sleep with them every night and if one starts crying you better watch out she is on a mission!
