@igorsMistress The next batch of the silkies are due to hatch tomorrow. Does Fugly only have 4 wives now?

I officially started my ant war today, stopped some too close to my pen and close to one of my grow out pen's. I'm not going to wait until they get as bad as last year was. My next door neighbor has a huge clump of bee's hanging on a part of his fencing in the back yard.

@igorsMistress Right after I posted that to you, I went in to check the temp and humidity again. I noticed some broken egg shell in there, so checked it out. One of those silkies is trying to hatch from the small end, and from the underside on top of it. So, I went in and flipped it over so that the place that it is pecking it's way out is now facing up.

One of our quail hatched that way. Crazy birds.

Okay...I'm inspired. I need to do a better job on the roosts I've built for my birds. Well done!

Good Morning DesertChic how's the humidikit working for you? I've got six eggs on lock down looks like all will hatch but there is one that I am not to sure about, I decided not to use it this time, got to figure out how to adjust it and figure out where it's leaking from, I don't know if it is a problem with the machine or a problem with the operator I wanted a far better coop this time around, the other was kinda slapped together, it kept them warm, dry and protected, but I didn't like the design. So it's turning into a "all things chicken" storage shed for me.

Wasn't able to check and see if they all have finally figured out where the coop is, first night we carried them all, second night only had to carry 12 of them, third night I had about 6 or 7.. I spent 7 hours in the ER with a friend last night only to find out we have to go to her OBGYN and her regular doctor. Wasn't a fun time, but caring for friends and family take priority over anything else. Someone I think it was you DesertChic talked about ventilation, while they probably had plenty, I took it to heart and we installed 8 ventilation holes with those little covers for them, air not rain. I'll take a picture today. Hubby should have the windows in as well, I can't tolerate 110 degree's, I'm not doing that to my chickens.

I love it.. I feel better now about being a "research-aholic" I will research anything. LOL. It was 3 years of research and soul searching before I decided to get chickens and Thanks to belonging to this group and reading all of your posts teaches me each day.

Was just out in the coop to clean, I don't know who made the suggestions, I believe I found them both on You-tube for using the lino and the sand, but I am eternally grateful, picture 1 shows the mess of poo under the roosts (hubby made it where I could just lift it and hook it up to clean) the 2nd picture is of the area after it had been scooped and the 3rd picture is something that I need help on, that is the mess those heathens have made, they are slinging their feed from the hanging feeders, if I make them any higher, my two little girls won't be able to reach them. I was just thinking, I have some chicken wire that has like 1 inch holes, what would you think about using a ring of that over the area they eat from.. gorilla tape or duct tape can be used to hold it in place.. it ought to keep the chickens from slinging.

Looks good! Honestly I would leave the feed mess for them to clean up themselves.

I agree! I feel like I wasted money on buying them feeders. If they weren't scattering it out of the feeder, they were kicking dirt into it! I gave up, and just toss it on the ground now for them, as that's where it end's up anyways!

Edit: Beside's, if you ever watched Little House On The Prairie they had the feed in the bowl or bucket, and just tossed out handful's to the flock's. Chickens eat dirt too, anyways. I seen them do it.
