Arizona Chickens

:frow Good Morning.. question, is mid to upper 50's at night warm enough for chicks that don't have "all" of their feathers? I need to move the ones I have in the house out to the grow out coop.. I'm thinking they are about 5 weeks old. They will be in a large dog crate for now I can wrap a tarp around it and I have a heat lamp if it comes down to it. The coop isn't completely draft proof, but it's not bad.

I moved 3 of mine out the other day, and they are doing ok. I have mine in a large wire dog crate with some hardware cloth wire on it, so that they can't squeeze out, and the bigger older one's can't peck at them. They will snuggle together at night for warmth if they need it.

I've got chicken wire around the bottom of the dog crate, it's a wire one as well, sized big enough for a German Shepard..lol, these won't be in with the big chickens like my first hatch was when I moved them outside, I'm turning my old coop into the grow out. They are still small enough to get through things, so I want them contained right now, probably before we go on our vacation at the end of May, I'll be turning them loose but they will still be separated from the older ones, for probably another month after that.. this way they can get to know each other with out blood shed. This weekend I am going to dig Sir Poops-a-lot out of the TSC coop at night, add him to the big coop and then be out there when they all wake up, hopefully by doing that, they'll all think he's been there the whole time, he's just starting to get his tail feathers back, don't want him losing them again. He's the baby that I've been nursing from his getting attacked by the flock at my friends house.. He's one of the ones, I hatched for her. He got jumped when I was trying to integrate two weeks ago. So we'll see, if he gets jumped again, I don't know what to do.

Good luck!

He looks like he's still wet from hatching, but he also looks like he's missing half of his fuzz..lol, around the neck and on the back by the tail, is he suppose to look like that? lol.

It's a naked neck so the neck is appropriate but the back...that's kinda different yea!

It seem's to have one of the smaller bowties, but I never seen a naked neck with a naked back, too! I wonder if it's going to end up mooning you like Fugly used to when he was younger?

I know! Weird but it'll be easy to identify anyway :gig
