Arizona Chickens

I just went and evaluated my yard, how big does the night-time/coop area have to be? The advantage of a bigger area is obvious, plus, they can have constant grit and water, since one of the water spigots is in the area I'm looking at containing. 6ft high fencing on the long sides, 3ft on the ends for now until I can afford to get something other than the wire I already bought.

Hubby didn't buy 5, just 2, and turns out he and the son-in-law were at the feed store on Stockton Hill Rd., so not TSC. Also, the chicks they brought home are apparently not the ones he originally mentioned, they're going to have to stay a few weeks in a brooder, they're hatchlings, probably about a week old. So now I have a total of 6. I think that's going to be easier to gradually adjust to more chickens (for us, not necessarily them, obviously) and give me more time to get into a larger home eventually, not dealing with too many chickens and a landlord.

Still, wondering how many will fit in my little pallet based coop and although we just got a 25lb bag of crumble, I wanted to introduce the older ones to stuff like the sunflower seeds and corn and stuff.

I'm in Kingman, AZ, by the way :)

What breeds did you end up with?

The bigs and littles got to have some interaction today. Other than a peck here and there over scratch all was well.

Hubs has his eye on one of the chicks hoping it's a pullet now. He tries to be standoffish but can't help himself.

So the NN's are growing on your hubby now too, huh? :gigFugly sure developed that red neck on him good, do you play some of that red neck music for him?

If you are in Kingman, I believe that @igorsMistress would be the closest to you with the NN chick's. A picture of your coop so that we could see it would get better answer's as far as the size and how many chicken's go.

He gets older rock music, not much into country here.

I think hubs is finally used to them now. He likes the coloring of this particular chick. It's got actual blue on its wings. It's a cool looking chick for sure.

It's amazing how the different colors of them can hatch out. Even though mine are the white ones, they sometimes through a different colored chick. Plus, I've been crossing mine to get even more color's, plus some of the one's from the CCLB hen's that hatch do get that crest on the head's too.

I'm still looking for a NN Showgirl Silkie to go with the regular silkies that I am growing out.

I want some of those cclb eggs!

I only have one CCLB hen left, but if you want some of her egg's to hatch, I can alway's save you some if you left me know when. I also just found another pullet egg out there today, but this one look's to be blue and I got the brown egg from the other pullet today too. The new pullet that's laying the blue egg has a fully feathered neck, but she's a mix. I seen Charley breeding her the other day, so I figured that she was ready to start laying egg's. Her name is Patches.

I need to grow these chicks out first and process my quail and any roos. I would want them in fall if you still have the hen.

Don't worry, my 2 girl's that I have that are laying those blue egg's aren't going anywhere. Now, if someone get's those NN chick's that I hatched last month, they might get lucky with a blue egg layer out of them.
