I think mine recently went through a mild molt and finally are back laying. More than normal amount of feathers were in the nest box.
Mine was in the nesting box, the coop, and the run.

Yes. The boys beds are full of feathers. I started them on feather fixer feed. They are all getting baths today also.Do anyone's else's chicken's look like they are starting an early molt? I have been noticing a few more feather's on the ground than normal. I looked at my Crested Cream Legbar hen Miracle's back more closely near the tail on the back yesterday evening, and it look's like she has new pin feathers coming in.

Hello all: outside temp is saying 114, that is to hot for me, have the chickens misters on, the water troughs full for them to stand in and have a fan in the coop for added air circulation..lol.. I'm hiding in the house under the a/c.. think I will stay here till the sun goes away. Everyone else surviving this heat?
I just woke up from my nap, have checked on the chicks in the house, checked on the eggs in the incubator, having a heck of a time maintaining the humidity on it, getting ready to go check on the chickens, their misters have been on, got to see if they still have water in their wading pools.I'm staying int the cool house too, but still going out there and checking up on them every couple of hour's.
I often call this time of year's feather loss the ugly's of summer. Their feathers fall - especially the NNs but they grow back before molt. I've never gotten a full molt at this time of year - just the hot, hot, hot feather loss. AND this year has been harder for me as I need to leave on the water from earlier in the morning. They have done alright - even the old girls and I have a broody as well. I just dump her out of the nest and she swears at me so I make sure to do it before I leave, etc.....etc. My DH is now in Chandler at a rehab (he was moved Friday night) so he can get stronger and go to dialysis. The Casa Grande dialysis facility is remodeling and is not taking new patients yet. We are on a "waiting" list of a type! So I am driving to the Valley everyday right now until the dialysis is regular again. In hospital dialysis was so convenient! Stay safe everyone.
Hi guys! Summer has been so hot and RL has been so chaotic. Currently have not only hubby and I, and the roommate that was supposed to be here til beginning of January, but now my grown son (32) has landed for at least a couple of weeks, and daughter got a job, so we've been playing a juggling game with the grandkids on any given day. (whew!)
@FeatherPugs - glad to hear sounds like hubby is doing better!! Dialysis can be so taxing but so necessary.
So ladies and gentlemen... I think I have 4 damn roos in my original set. And to make it worse, this one is nasty aggressive already, attacking hubby's dog, the 2 pullets when we try to socialize them, and even my 4yr old granddaughter (who just loves the chickens, which makes it heartbreaking when he scares her.) He's *definitely* going to freezer camp!! SOON!! I've been reading sites about butchering since it's been years since I've done that.

But can you guys confirm the others are roos too? I know some breeds the females get *some* waddles and combs, but I'm pretty sure these are all past that. Plus, I have at least two voices in the morning (which is funny, cause I've never heard more than two at a time, but I *know* the one that's different colored above crows, and at least one of the others.) At first, I thought I might have 2 roos and 2 pullets outside, then the 2 pullets that were in the brooder. Which would have been perfect, 4 hens... But noooo...View attachment 1844472 View attachment 1844476 View attachment 1844477
I'm also concerned about the white colouring on their waddles. Any comments on that I appreciate too. View attachment 1844470
So let me try and upload some pics and see what you guys think. Maybe you can help me out with some breeds too - TSC doesn't seem very good at keeping the breeds separated, these were all supposed to be one breed (straight run.) Wouldn't *chance* have gotten me at least 1 pullet? LOL
I'll post the pic of the other two (girls) later (no pics currently) - hubby doesn't remember what he got me!! LOL
Stay cool friends!!
