Arizona Chickens

What is LF (Polish and RIR), and what neck of the woods are you in? I wish i could go in the yard w my chickies, but they will definitely fly away. Well except the silkies!
I used the shortcut for Large Fowl. I have only 3 large chickens. rest are banties :love .. My banties sure can fly, but they don't do it , except if they feel danger. That is one reason I do not clip their wings. My feral rescue cats do not bother any of my chickens. Chicken are also not afraid of the kitties. All my pets seem to live in harmony.
If you are wondering where I live,,, well,,, I am a long distance member here on the Arizona Thread. Have been in Phoenix, and had family members living there. Still have friends in Mesa.
I'm in suburban Chicago. I try to send Coooooooler weather vibes out to all in Arizona during Summer. During Winter,, I try to absorb all the milder weather vibes from Arizona... as I'm dealing with below ZERO temps.
All the people on this thread are friendly, informative, and pleasant to deal with. That is my reason for hanging out here.:highfive:

I know you are in a NO CHICKEN ZONE. :hit But if you take out your cuties in your backyard, (hens) they will walk around on ground, scratch, and just enjoy. Not likely to fly over fence. Hens generally are quiet, (except when they just layed egg sometimes) so nobody in area will know they are even there.:thumbsup

They scare me w their flying.. the two D'Uccles went over my head in the family room the other day.. same height as the yard wall, and easily went 20'. One side of the wall has german shepherds, attack dogs. They kill birds and rabbits regularly, so absolutely no self control w them. I might build out a veggie screened in green house. I could let them wiggle around out there perhaps.

Oh ok about Chicago.. i was looking at the trees and your comments about snow 😂 that explains it!!

For a quick fix option you may consider one such as these. I used one in my backyard as aviary for my pigeons.

Oh i like that idea! I have a zip up gazebo i use for camping.. not sure if it seals at rhe bottom well.. this migbt be nice once the heat is gone.

So i have 2 4x8 raised garden bed boxes to setup.. i need to keep the rabbits and birds out anyway, so i very well might fence it all in. I know LF (😂) chickens will tear up the veggie beds, but what about the bantams? Are my daydreams of them frolicking delicately through the plants a pipe dream?

ALSO..... just logged in to check the DNA test results, as i have done every 4 hours for the last 19 days.. and it finally says they have received my order and will have results in 4-7 days. 🙄 At least i have a 3 day break from checking.

However, i was really hoping to make sure Nala, my partridge silkie was a girl (which i do think is the case), and Stardust was a boy -- so i could happily get rid of the meanie... but now im not sure he has roo feathers .. ill see if i can get a pic without having him slice my arm open like the other day.

Things have been so tough here, im so happy i have the little birds to distract me. One of them was screaming when i left the room. I guess i am part of the flock now :)

Yes, you're dreaming if you think the bantams won't happily wreak havoc in your garden :lau

good afternoon AZ. It's pretty nice out there today if a bit breezy. I had to turn the a/c up from"meat locker" to "cool" today. I picked up a few kiddie pools and cut them down for wading pools for the flock. They love them! Can't wait for the weekend, 9 of my birds will be gone to their new homes and life will be much simpler.

@BlueBaby when I get those AC eggs in the mail I'm going to add a couple from Cuckoo, my silver Dorking girl. Even though Angus is in jail I saw him mate with her the other day. I'm curious to see what their babies will look like.
