Arizona Chickens

Not Arizona, its Maine, in the 70s. Its the delay, not the temp that's the prob. They'll starve regardless.
A lot to the places that the hatcheries are, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, are pretty hot in August. Sandhill Preservation reduces the minimum from 25 to 20 for August so they can have less in the box in the heat. IA is pretty hot and humid in the summer. I still have not heard from them about the chicks. Maybe he is just going to send my order on the back-up date in Sept.:fl

I hope there aren't delays!! I noticed the Ideal site had more shipments available, mostly Wednesday ship dates. Pratt's won't order any until fall. I was super lucky to get first pick of their last shipment!

Sept Cockerel Harvest AZ!
We have 2 people coming, and @BlueBaby is contributing some nice NN boys. If you would like to learn to harvest your cockerels, PM me. We have not decided on a date, but it will be at my place in nice cool Prescott. Outdoors. Social Distance.
BYOB (Bring Your Own Boy)
Bring an ice chest.
Bring ice.
Bring your sharp knife.
Bring one of those nice plastic folding tables if you have one, they are great.
Everything else will be here.
Hands On Practice.
I will show you how I do mine, you show me how you do yours. :D
We all can share the work of gutting & plucking, makes it go faster.
One of us is bringing a cone. I never used one. I have a propane stove for scalding.
I have big pots, more are always better & welcome -- if you have a big water bath canner, that is the size.
If we do it mid-week I can have some stay overnight in the Bunkhouse. Sleeps 3.
Hope we can get a few AZ peeps with extra roosters to come and join us!

Ok, there are two beds, on the couch, for the chickens to use. But no, they want the space between them.

Ok, since you guys were not very enthusiastic about Minnie's comb... what do you think about Daisy's? Do you think we might have eggs soon? She keeps laying down in corners alone.

Her face is not very red, but she is thinking!
Her face started changing last week.. but the hiding has started the last few days. Really excited. I need to get their roost setup. I cut a tree branch and sanitized it w peroxide. I just need some brackets to attach it w in the coop. I'll add a small basket in there, and maybe attach a nestbox to the area under the coop. The interior coop door is never closed, but i do cover the top of the run and the exterior coop door with a towel to make it dark for them, since i have a light or tv on in the evening. I'm excited!!

Oh, and Nala, the partridge silkie got spooked by outside birds today and was bok bokking super loud like a big giant chicken!! She does NOT have a bantam voice!
