Ugh, speaking of which, i see rat droppings outside again. I suspect it's my neighbors leaving dog food outside. I have some bait stations on order.
We have ben using 1 cup of all purpose flour, 1 cup of Paris of plaster & a tablespoon of baking soda. Put out in an area where cats and dogs cannot get to it.
Also have water out for the rodents.
If a hawk or owl finds a dead rodent this mixture won’t harm wildlife.

That's good info to know for people that might have need for it.

Thanks, ill try this. Ill put it inside the bait station, it is kid and pet proof, has a bowl container that can go inside for liquid or powders. Hopefully it gets here soon.. i hate even walking outside, i see rat poops everywhere! No nesting areas or seeds or food sources in my yard, so its coming from one or both messy neighbors.

I hope that when they die they will be back at your neighbor's place wherever they came from. That way you won't have to pick them up off the ground.

home depot and craft stores (michael's, hobby lobby) should have the plaster of paris in stock.

Yes, it doesn't kill them instantly, and they usually die wherever their nest is. I have had mouse probs before (in Hawaii) and surprisingly they turn into nothing pretty quickly after dying... their bones are just cartilage, and the blood/liquids evaporate so fast. Id usually see a little fur dust!

I might get plaster of paris anyhow for my daughter so she can do some art projects..

Since we've been doing online school for so long (a year prior to covid), i am going to just move her to an online home school program. We can get away from the school schedule and she can advance as needed. They want to hold her back because of her age, but a bored kid is a headache 😂 Plus, she can do her "summer break" in the spring when the weather is perfect and do classes when it is unbearably hot outside. The chickens are already her playmates!

How's everyone's flock's doing today? Mine have been enjoying the nicer weather that we have been having. I caught some of them out there sunbathing.

@igorsMistress How's the duckling's leg?
I’ve given them some wet feed with nutritional yeast and waiting and watching. I’ll do that every week or so to give her a little boost of b vitamins. It’s like she’s uncoordinated from the rapid growth more than anything. Thanks for asking! How about your crew? And how is your hubs doing? Is his recovery going well?

I can concur. Our neighbors across the street were complaining about roof rats because the folks that live behind them don’t pick up the fruit that falls on the ground. One of them of course found our shed and chicken coop. The stink coming from the shed after it died was pretty terrible but when I cleaned it out all there was was a pile of stiff fur. They do leave evidence of their death throws though if the stuff makes them bleed to death...it splatters about.
