Arizona Chickens

I have an insulated closet where Dylan the parrot has her night cage, I would move it in there on top of her night cage and put hand warmers on it, and an old quilt over it and Dylan's cage. I keep Dylan's room pretty warm, she is only a generation or 2 out of the Congo. Not freeze-hardy. I have a portable Mr. Buddy heater and propane for the long power outages. We have had a couple. One the first summer we were here was all day. It is snowing here again right now!

It look's like you are prepared for that then. You know how unreliable that electric can be in storms.

Yes, my husband retired from 30 years working for Seattle City Light, the power utility in Seattle. He often had to answer the phone at night when the office people went home. His voice was the recording that people got telling them that the power was out! With the estimated time to restore power, which was just a guess, and the power company really had no idea when it was really going to be back! We have 2 Buddy heaters, one for our house and one for the Air BnB guest house. 9 tanks of propane. Propane runs the stove in the guest house. The un-interruptible power back-up will keep us on-line for about 6 hours, longer if I were to only use it once an hour.

Turners, count-downs! It's a good thing I don't dare to try to keep a rooster in my area...
I have fertile eggs coming out my ears! You are welcome to some! Between me and my neighbor we have Barred Holland cross sex-link, Rock, NN, Leghorn, Orpington, Australorp, and cute little pullet eggs from the Barred Hollands that I am not wanting to hatch until they are larger.🥚🍳 The NNs lay a nice big egg, and might be interesting crossed with the Barred Holland. They would not be NN most of them, but a few would have the naked necks.

I definitely have to get my pen remodeled. I'm also picking up a trampoline frame in Mesa monday, I've made a coop/run using the two half-circles of the frame, so it'll be 6 ft x 14 ft, or wider than 6 depending. I had one in black canyon, and two layers of shade cloth kept it bone dry! I just needed to do something quicker this time, hence the panel kennel.

I wanted something quick, and movable, which is why the chain link fencing top rails coop I got. I am over the city of Prescott limit for sheds already, 2 are grandfathered in built before the modern zoning code. My coop is not a building. (That is my story, & I am sticking to it)!;)

I agree! If someone complains, you could move it just to spite the little zoning zealots! I'm still torn between the 10x13x6.5 ft peak coop, and building the trampoline pen/coop, but it isn't every day (or year!) that just the frame becomes available so I'm grabbing it to keep my options open.

More coops, the better! And I do move the 10 x 10 wire coop, I like to put it in a place where I want to kill the grass . . . next year I will move it to this year's old garden and have a garden where the coop is now. Not really enough sun where the coop is, but some things will grow.

Just don't put those White Rock girl's in with the Red Dorking's that you are planning to get. Those White Rock's are mean, and the Dorking's are the lowest in the flock. One of those 2 White Rock's was banned from the coop today for the way she was beating up on a Dorking pullet. The Dorking pullet is dead now.
