Arizona Chickens

Just don't put those White Rock girl's in with the Red Dorking's that you are planning to get. Those White Rock's are mean, and the Dorking's are the lowest in the flock. One of those 2 White Rock's was banned from the coop today for the way she was beating up on a Dorking pullet. The Dorking pullet is dead now.
That is sad to hear. The White rocks are not the top of the order here, the Brown sex-link chases them. They are the ones the rooster breeds the most, they have lost some of the feathers on the back of their heads. Maybe that keeps them in their place? When I put in the young pullets, I was being extra careful to have 2 food sources, 2 waterers, 2 pans of treats when I give them extra leftovers or alfalfa. I was making sure no one was hungry, no reason to pick on the new birds!

I do that too, but those 2 White Rock's (especially that one) think's that all of the food station's belong to her.

Some chickens are like that! Sounds like time for some chicken pot pie. Rock soup anyone? I thought you were selling them?

I was, but I won't sell a known mean bird. She's going to be coyote food maybe, or whatever come's through the yard tonight.

it sounds like the white plymouth rocks are as mean as sex-links? or is this an individual thing?

I've never had any sex-link's before, and this was the first and last time that I will have any of those White Rock's.

Some sex-links are made with a rock as a parent. The brown sex-link I have from Ideal is supposed to be Ideals white Rock x RI Red male. Most Rocks I have had are pretty mild mannered hens. Some are more dominant than others, like any breed. The red sex-links are very easy-going.

Where you are I'm sure the coyotes check every night! I know that they do here. They do not touch the electric fence, but I do not want them to learn to come here for their meals!
