Nothing new this morning. The two chicks look mostly fluffed up, and the other three eggs are just sitting there. Fingers crossed for more hatches today.

The parents are barred with small white patches. Not sure how chick #2 happened, it's mostly yellow with a dark back. Not a problem, they are cute! And their coloring will probably change as they grow.

Keep an eye on how each grow's and feather's out later, just in case that difference in coloring is a way that you'll be able to tell the sex of them at this age.

It is quite possible that the chick with a lot of yellow is a male. Barred birds are sometimes much easier to tell.

That's what I thought might be the case.

I suspect that chick has gentic roots that strech back to Indiana.
When chick grows up,,, you may have to have a secret discussion with her and ask.

The Welbars were very obvious at hatch, they are bred just for this reason. The Barred Hollands are not so easy on hatch day.

An easy to sex Leghorn is a good thing. Might want to toe punch the light one to see if it grows up to be a cockerel.
