Well, I seen one of those tiny cars in your area (I think it was called a Prius) go floating down the street last night on the new's on tv.

My tiny car stays safe here at home in a "flash flood" alert! The radio says, "Turn around, don't drown!" on every alert. We are old retired farts, no need to even go to the store for a good month here. More than a month, I would eat some roosters!

Not that much rain here, and my house is at the top of a hill.

The talkative chick (the dark one with eye markings) that comes and peeps at me will probably be named Gabby if it's a girl. Since chicks are so delicate, I'm not in a hurry to name them, but Gabby has been here for a week now, and aside from a bit of pasty butt this afternoon which I took care of, they seem to be doing well. *fingers crossed.*

Hoping for some more rain this evening.

It has been so hot, I might give some "Sav-A-Chick" electrolytes to even home hatched chicks. (Some gatoraid in their water if you do not want to get the store stuff). I always give it to shipped chicks, but my home hatched ducklings did not seem to need it. Pasty butt is from stress.

We should all be stocked up like old farts now to hedge against inflation or for disasters. Skimming thru book 100 Day Pantry to help me make my stock up lists. I know my parents could last a few months on canned goods if they had to. Good thing since they are in hurricane area and they could become an island where they are - Mom went thru a couple of WEEKS with no power the last big one.

He weans the chicks off commercial food and puts them to work making compost.

I know my parents could last a few months on canned goods if they had to. Good thing since they are in hurricane area and they could become an island where they are - Mom went thru a couple of WEEKS with no power the last big one.

Yes, you never know when thing's can happen, or if they put us through another lock-down again. Having plenty of canned good's on hand is a good thing, and put the closet date to expire in the front. If you stock up on some dry good or dehydrated thing's, then don't forget to also stock up on water, because you will need it for those plus to have some for drinking also. If you had to, you could fill up your bath tub with water. Your water heater also hold's water in it if you need to use it also.

After going to the Safeway near me last March 2020 and finding the shelves EMPTY like it was a news report from Venezuela, I upped my game on how much food I keep in the pantry. It is kind of a pain to have to date and rotate some things, like flour, which will go stale and that might not get used fast enough. I usually have a month's worth of chicken feed on hand, it will go stale or get moldy if I keep too much around. I used to keep a pretty good supply of food on hand when we lived in Palm Desert, right on the San Andreas fault, but I had not thought we needed it here in Prescott!

That was one of the things I liked about this place, it has a well. The seller did not tell us it goes dry some years! This year, we still have well water, but last year at this time the well went dry, no monsoon rain to keep it going. It is not a big well, but it could be run off of a generator in a pinch, and it would be enough water for us and the animals to drink. It is not plumbed to the house, but it would beat having to stand in some line for a water hand-out. In the desert we kept about 15 gallons of water on hand, just in case.
