Arizona Chickens

There's a reason for the traditional siesta time - anyone with sense knows better than to go out in the sun when it's this hot. Only fools who have to prove to themselves how tough they can be are hiking, biking when the sun is shining this time of year... or unacclimated tourists who don't understand how deadly the heat is to them.

I had friends from Mesa come visit a couple weeks ago in Chino Valley - so they are used to the heat. But they told me the week after that they couldn't believe how intense the sun was just being out on the farm for less than an hour - they got a good sunburn. They realized then why I had a long sleeve fishing shirt on with a flipped up collar - I was out in it from 6am to after 6 pm with a floppy hat just to keep the sun off me during my plant sale.

Yes, you have to stay out of the heat, and at least cover up to keep from sunburn if you do need to go out. That Sun can burn your skin very fast. So much for wearing those bikinis outdoors, huh?

I've been waiting to hear from someone living in our heat that's tried this ❤️. Can you tell me what temps your eggs were stored at? My biggest worry is that we don't always run the AC in the summer and I read somewhere that they should be kept stored in the 70's.
We did have these in the warmer storage, that's why I think these went bad. But the other 2 seem fine. It could be one egg was thin shelled too. It did get a bit warm around 90' plus for a bit. I did bring them in soon after that.
I always check each egg in a separate bowl in the summer for any weird smell and do a float test.

Our temps are in Summer average now... I LUV 💕 :yesss: summer,,, but not the SAUNA type.
How is everyone and their flocks doing ???
I just scanned and see that for quite some time,, that air quality in the lower 48 has not been as good as todays'

Yes, it does feel slightly better over here today. They say rain around 3:30 this afternoon but we will see. They said that yesterday, and I barely got a couple of sprinkles on the kitchen window because the expected storm fizzled out.

My flock is still doing ok. I haven't lost any to the heat so far.

Can't complain when it's below 110. :)

My girls started laying a few eggs now that it's hovering around 105. No misters or wading pool. They seem happy.

But temps are supposed to creep up again in a few days.
No rain here yet...
Yes, I seen on the news that the Temps will be going up again.

I've been having a conversation with Tropical babies that lives over in Hawaii. Her son was over on Maui and is staying in a shelter. He lost everything. He and other's that survived are in shock.

Yesterday and today were pretty nice...high 90's 🙂 Supposed to be back up in the 100's where I'm at though really quick. Lots of clouds today but it was just a rainless tease for us again here. On the bright side...we have no weeds growing this year because no water.😂😭 My backs grateful 😂

Chickens are all doing great...no heat losses and I still occasionally catch one of the tough birdies sunbathing! Amazing!

So sad what happened there. Homes, jobs... everything gone. The largest banyan in the US was one of the casualties. It covered an entire city block, rough 2/3rds of an acre and was 60 feet high. Planted in 1843?...or there abouts. It had 47 main trunks....on one tree.
I know it's nothing compared to the human loss...it just kind of symbolizes the scale of what happened there to me.
