No on the tigers, but that sounds like a good thing to do with the boys now that it is cooling down.
I sold the quail to the guy I bought the eggs from (we had a deal he would buy any hatch survivors back). We aren't set up for quail yet, and if I were to raise them it would be for meat.
A NOVEL, By LareePQG
I did some heavy duty research into City of Phoenix municipal code to determine what I could and couldn't do (with quail and chickens)...and got a lot of nowhere. I have experience in contract law, and got the distinct impression the city is being purposely vague.
Problem: we are on horse property built in 1950.
Supposedly we are exempt from most things because it is either 1) written into the orignial property deeds or 2) grandfathered in. Most of my neighbors have livestock, poultry, and other "farmy" things. I cannot find proof of what seems to be an urban legend
Here's my tissue issue--
---COP defines animals as "any animal of a species that is susceptible to rabies, except man. "--so not chickens
---COP defines livestock as "neat animals, horses, sheep, goats, swine, mules and asses."--so not chickens
---
There is no definition for "poultry".
---Because of plot size, I can slaughter my own livestock. Nothing written on culling of poultry.
---Residents are limited to 20 head of poultry or 25 rats (total) per half-acre.
---You can't give away chicks or ducklings as prizes, and you can't dye them.
---If your lot size is less than 10,000 sq feet, you need written, certified permission from all your neighbors.
---All coops & runs must be at least 80 feet away from a residence, otherwise you need written permission.
and my favorite:
---"No male poultry shall be kept within the City limits except such male poultry as are incapable of making vocal noises which disturb the peace, comfort or health of any person residing within the City."
I have called the city a few times, probing for info, and basically the noise ordinance supercedes all other ordinances. So even if your HOA, property deeds, or lot size allows for roosters, they have to be mute.
Yet all my neighbors have multiple roosters, and coops closer than 80 feet to mine or other neighbor's houses. But I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING in zoning law or property deeds which would "grandfather" us in.
I only really care about being within the letter of the law because my one neighbor (who has 2 or 3 roosters) is out to get us. She'll stand on her roof and take pictures if I am making too much noise in the garden. She reports EVERYBODY to COP for vegetation/cars/whatever.
If the neighborhood has been "getting away" with ignoring city ordinances, I don't want her to report me for doing something odd, and thenit be ruined for everyone.
