Arizona Chickens

Good Evening everyone! I've been a BYC slacker for a bit, just finished (well almost) the shipping crate chicken house and it looks "okay"....for a shipping crate that is

I glazed over a few posts, and....
WELCOME blckbrnfamly! Good to have you:)
ChrystalGail, hope you are feeling better soon!
Angie, thanks for the info on the Tucson show, I am making plans to go...Also sending good vibes for your DH and that job; fingers crossed..

Oh, javelina....we have so many of those buggers here, I guess they come off south mountain. In the evening, we have whole little "piggie" families, just trotting down the street and in the yards...have to admit, the babies are cuuuuuute! DBF (??!!) detests getting up at 5am to put the trash out on Sundays, but we have learned our lesson with putting it out the night before...Javelina just knock it over and make a huge mess..

NO eggs yet from the girls. I'm also giving them until Christmas and then they are out in the streets

(kidding of course....at least about the street part)

Be careful with the javalina. They don't take to being chased off. Years ago. my brother shot one with a bow and arrow. The rest of the pack treed him in a mesquite tree.

They ate the dead one while he was up there. He finally was able to collect the head of the thing after they left. He had it stuffed. It was so ugly, my sister in law used to cover it with a dish towel so that she would not have to look at.

Now they live in Strawberry, and the critters come right into their yard and eat the plants. She won't run them off, she is scared of them.

I live very close to 35th ave and Deer Valley Rd and there has been javelina spotted near us in the past but the other day while hubby was driving in the neighborhood he spotted what he thought at first to be a little lost chihuahua. He stopped his truck with about 4 other people and he was going to bring it home. Upon closer inspection it was a coyote pup!!! Didn't see mom or other pups only the one but thank the good Lord he didn't bring it home. We see all the regular desert dwellers around here quite often.

On a different note I have red sex link and gold sex link chicks running out my ears if anyone is interested. 9-9-09 is their hatch date.

If your hubby had brought the coyote pup home and it was a male, I would have loved to have gone illegal and raised it..... and bred it to our Golden Retreiver!

I did not want to get up this morning.

Archie, the wild cat, teenager, wound up, full speed ahead, Whew! Kitten I have, would attack and bite my feet. He would walk all over me, bite my hands, elbow or what ever was sticking out. Then he would jump over to the dresser and start scratching at the mirror. I had the squirt bottle in action. Now I have to wash the mirror. Lol.

I gave up at 3:30 am and got up. He was hungry. I could hardly get the food in his bowl, with his head in the way.

I didn't know that there were so many good movies on, at that time in the morning. I hate that it is dark so much later in the morning.

.

I did take the day off. I watched movies, ate popcorn. Nice for a change. Boy I don't think I could do that every day. I would jump up, do something go back to the movie. Jump up go outside, check the chickens. All the girls lay their eggs in the Playhouse/coop, except for Cleo, she was on the nest. So I went out every 15 min. The Playhouse/coop in not in the pen area yet. I was afraid the dog might get them. Nope, each time I went out, Bear, would be laying beside the coop between the open gate to the pen and the little house. He was on guard. He never moved from that spot, until Cleo had lay her egg and gone back into the pen. What a dog.

When I collected the eggs, I was counting as I gathered. What! I had 6 eggs:eek: I only have 5 hens? Somebody lay an egg in there yesterday and I just didn't see it. THEY LIKE THE NEW HOUSE!

My daughter lives in Black Canyon City, They have javelina coming in the yard and up on her patio. Her Chow was attacked several times. If they have babies, the whole herd will come after you. Be very careful.

The only worries you have with wood is the Termites. you might check into putting some green wood or something between the wood and ground.

Hello all!

DH comes home from vacation in a few hours. My grandiose plans of getting my "to do" list under control were niave and laughable. I am giving into the laziness--- currently they boys and I are watching bad 80's movies via the XBOX and netflix.

Current selection: The Ice Pirates (1984) with Anjelica Houston and a scary-young Ron Perlman. Perhaps the first movie I have seen where he is not wearing stilts or risers.

The Cranky Baby calls... Peace out,

Larissa

Good Evening Everyone!! I hope your Sunday went well. Mine was good, how ever I did notice that my chickens seem to be loosing a lot of feathers! The weather has been cold, then hot, then cold again
hmm.png
, and my husband is putting up a shop with very big and noisey machienary, could all of this be stressing them out and that's why they are loosing their feathers? Thanks

Good evening... we got our first BLUE egg from one of our Blue Wheaten Ameraucana pullets. She did the egg song and everything. Egg was small compared to our EE "Sunshine" but now I need to borrow someone's blue wheaten roo!

I don't know about rent-a-roo but I do know that you can rent-a-coop with flock included here in Phoenix. The man builds the coops and brings the whole thing to your home. Sets it all up with feed and everything and adds birds that has been mutually decided upon. You keep the whole set up for a week or so to decide if it fits your lifestyle. If not he comes and gets the whole thing and you just pay for the service. If you decide to keep it then you pay for the whole thing.
