I gotta commend you, it is hard to do. While in school, I gained 15 pounds. In the past year, I lost that plus another 3! I need to lose another 20, then I will have my BMI below 25, the optimum for good health for my height.

One of the things that is inspiring me is my oldest daughter is getting big, at 13 she is obese and on the road to poor health. We never push her and the first time I discussed it with her, she was crying and told me she was ashamed. Do you think I wasn't crying also?

It is hard to get motivated to do it, I know. Plus, it is very easy to eat, food is always available... and it isn't like you can quit like cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs, you MUST eat to stay alive!

If it takes the child to motivate you, go with it, anything works. You do need to be around for him. I will keep you in my prayers.

Oh, I just finished running 3 miles, 20 minutes ago! I haven't done that since my last physical fitness test in the Marines on 26 Nov 2005, almost 4 years ago to the date. I have since retired.

Awesome on your weight loss. Tonight I wanted to walk around the block and see some of the christmas lights and David thought that we couldn't because it was dark out. I really intended on walking but the next thing I knew David took off running. I yelled for him to stop and he did then looked at me and said, " Mom I dare ya!" So I did the only thing I could do and took off running to catch him. We did little short races all the way around the block. I tell ya I have not laughed that hard in a really long time. It was tons of fun and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Right now I might only be able to run 25 feet at a time but that is the most hilarious 25 feet on the planet. I'm still laughing. I put my insecurities away and I ran with my baby!!!!

I was an obese child and I can feel your daughter's pain. I wish no one would have ever told me what not to eat or when to eat because everytime they did that it made me feel stupid. Keep it upbeat. Love her no matter what her size and educate her as much as possible. She will be fine with your guidance and love. Keep it fun and maybe just make a time each day even if it is an hour to do something spontaneous and off the wall like I did tonight. 6 months ago I would have been horrified to think that someone might actually see me running or walking but tonight it didn't matter. For the first time I didn't care because I was laughing and I was having fun NOT EXERCISING just having fun. I decided that even if I don't lose not a single pound I am just going to live a healthier life. It is less overwhelming than to say to myself that I have 200 pounds to lose and I am going to go on a diet. Diets don't work cause no one can eat that way forever. Portion control and good choices and some sort of activity each day is the only way in my book. I can eat anything I want even cheesecake but I can only have a small amount not half the cake ya know. Deprivation has always caused me to fail in the past. Good luck with your daughter. Live, Love, and Laugh~~

Congratulations on your new program, Nessa. . . I am struggling with some extra weight, too, right now, and committed to getting it off before spring. My job keeps me physically active, but I am trying hard to make healthy food choices. That can be quite a challenge, with the holidays looming, but I know it is worth it. Best of luck to you.

Congratulations Nessa! I am looking forward to Christmas lights season too. It is hard to say no to exercise when the little ones are SOOO excited about seeing the lights. I have about 40 pounds to lose, and go to the "fat doctor" every month. I have not been able to lose ANY weight since the last baby.

I swear, if her perfect, 85 pound, over-highlighted, well-meaning but frustratingly high-metabolism-ed nurse tells me "You just need to to take in less than you burn" one more time, I may squish her.

Portion control and excercise are key and few people understand this even though they know it.

Diets work. It is generally a short term thing and can later lead to binges. If you can diet without binging, do so.... few can.

Counting calories really is the key and when you plan to eat a piece of cheescake, just make a mental note that it is over 500 calories and you will need to jog for 40-60 minutes to burn it off, OR, cut out some other portion of your diet.

I learned by being in the Marines to hate excercise. They use it as punishment, so any association with excercise is an association with punishment. I ended up managing my weight for 10 years using diet alone, eating chips here and cutting out potatos there.

The irony of this is that had I excercised, I would have increased my lean muscle mass, therefore raising my metabolism, thereby increasing the number of calories I could eat!!!!

Now I am using the diet (counting calories) along with excercise.

My daughter wants to start going to the gym with me. I said it I wanted to do it and she said she wants to do it with me. Always get better results if it is their idea.

Keep walking Mom, those bursts of sprinting are good for you, however, I recommend a physical before you start pushing yourself too hard. ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE GOOD SHOCK ABSORBING SHOES ON. The knees can take a pounding, even on skinny people and you don't want to lose your mobility. I see patients nearly everyday that have problems with their knees, then end up gaining weight secondary to loss of mobility.

Also, you will find that as a side benefit, the more you excercise, the less chronic pain you have! It makes it go away like magic.

Yea! Good job, getting motivated is the hard thing. If you get dressed for the walk or run, chances are that you will go. Good luck to everyone trying to get those nasty extra lbs. off. I am one of those that has a portion control problem.

I'm still working on my pen area. Getting closer to having it done. My DS helped me with the top yesterday. all I have to do is add a few more ties. When i get it complete I'll get some pic. The baby chicks are having a ball playing and living in the Playhouse Coop.
The Frizzle House Bed and Breakfast. I am also getting ready for the new baby's due on Dec. 3rd.

Every one have a great holiday. got to get chores done and start cooking.

I'm planning on it.

I hope to see some of you at the chicken show this weekend. I will be there all weekend. I'll either be at the raffle table, clerking for a judge, or just sitting around relaxing. I am also hoping to sell my 3 bantam RIR roos.

Just look for a short blonde with long, natural curly hair ( or big hair, lol)

I believe we set up cages for around 1200 birds, which include chickens, pigeons, turkeys, ducks, geese, peacock, etc.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!!

Humanne society was at my house today...

They had a complaint about a neighbor that has pit bulls, but when I got home, they were parked in front of my place checking out the chickens I have in a tractor in the front yard. The guy was very nice and said they are legal as long as I don't have a rooster, which are illegal within the city limits. We had a great conversation and I showed him all my chickens and he said he hasn't had any complaints.

I pointed out that I have had chickens on and off for 18 years and my neighbors didn't know I had them till they saw me welding up my chicken tractor a few weeks ago!

They went to the pt bull house and that was that.

On a lighter note, I hatched out my first hatch last Sat and I got 29 chicks from Privettes. I am up to my ears in baby chicks right now. I had one DOA and one that died within a few hours. The rest are thriving and doing well. It doesn't get any better than this.

The chicks I got were cuckoo Marans, Delawares, Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons and the hatchlings were EE crosses. So all is right with the world.
