Arizona Chickens

I don't think he DOES the processing, just rents the equipment. If you don't eat the skin, there is no point to getting a plucker, you would just skin the birds when you process them. You might be better off bribing a local redneck with a 6-pack and a few birds.

Hi Mahonri, if you can not spare the 2 pullets at this time I can wait until you have a better hatch ratio. . . not a problem, just let me know what works for you. . .

What if I offered you two EEs now? One is laying now.... and is beautiful... and bluish eggs!

How hard is it to process a chicken? I want to learn but Im nervous, since Ive never done it before.

Not that hard. I did it frequently when I was a teenager. If we were going to have chicken for dinner, mom would send me outside with a bucket of cold water and a sharp knife... in fact, I used a grapefruit spoon to clean/scrape out the lungs etc...

I got so I could have them skinned and cleaned in minutes. I was also a pheasant hunter so once I got one or two birds during hunting season, I was high tailing it back home to clean them.

I can do it, I just don't like doing it.

Is this you telling us that you're a local redneck that will do it? I'm sure I can find some PBR somewhere

DISCLAIMER-I AM NOT AN EXPERT. You should talk to the meat bird folks.

Not that hard, once you get over the "My chickens!" factor. Doing the meanest roo first, made it easier. If you have ever cleaned after hunting or fishing, it is like that. Since we just skinned, cleaned, and bagged the birds whole, there was very little cleanup. 10 minutes with the hose.

Not plucking made it fast. 9 roos in 1.5 hours.

I can do it, I just don't like doing it.

true dat.

We have a redneck down the street. Wonderful man, worked at a processing place as a teenager, walked us through our first batch. I would be willing to lend someone a hand if they needed it: but my yard is not an abbitoir, thank you very much.

IMPRESSIVE!! I would like to learn, for sure. I never thought about skinning them as opposed to plucking. I do hate the skin, so that way would work for me. Maybe you can hold a workshop for us

Come April we'll have to find a spot, Larissa can teach us :0) and the feathers will fly!

WawahaWAAAAIIIIT! I AM NOT AN EXPERT! And I DIDN'T do it by myself! I had help!

Don't go volunteering me just yet. I bet I COULD get the neighborhood redneck to do a class, but it sounds like Mahroni has WAAAAAAY more experience than me. Besides, doesn't he have medical training and have to do oral surgeries and stuff?

Does anyone else feel that weird rumbling? I'm SW of Tucson... it has been happening off and on all day. I know at 10:45am and 1:00pm for sure... didn't notice what time the others happened. It shakes the ground and our house!
