I will have something in a few months, but right now I dont. What kind is your friend looking for or does it matter?

He doesn't seem to care...he just didn't want to have to mess with putting them in a brooder, as he wants to be able to integrate the newbies with the others as quickly as possible.

Since I have two lovely pullets from Mahonri, the top of my list now is one of Laree's Aloha's. . . I love the look of the Swedish Flower Hens. . .

She's the one that puts listings on CL, right? I knew it was someone on here, I just forgot who. I'll PM her.

I usually do have a good variety of birds but I sold out of everything so that I could clear out a bunch of stuff and deal with some of the projects that have been put on hold for so long. I am getting ready to possibly order in some buff orpingtons though. Just as soon as I figure out which way is up I will start posting on craigslist again. Feel free to contact me via PM or email anytime though.

Pooonastick!!!!! The lady who was going to sell me the MF leghorn hatching eggs decided she needed to pare down her flock! The pullets are not laying yet, so she can't send me any eggs before they go. Cost of shipping the whole bird would be WAAAY to much, and don't want to order 25 birds with iffy coloring from Sandhill. Some of the birds just look like a speckled sussex, and if I am going to raise up a bajillion chicks, i might as well just do speckled sussex.

25 chicks. 2. 5. ah ah ah ah.

Laree--I got a couple of Roo's from summer and at least one pullet...they are about the same age as my Specked Sussex so it is going to be fun....I love this Aloha Project

I also had at least 60 chicks hatch since last night...which is great because I had sold out of everything. This should be a great weekend for chick selling and more hatching

Other things going on up north with me, enjoying the great weather to clean up some of the messy pens up here, just in time for them to get messy again.

gckiddhouse: The egg is Delaware, the daddy is GCMarans, I hatched out 5 of them. gave one away and the four I kept are all PULLETS!! By June I should be getting some LARGE brown eggs... I think I'll breed them back to their daddy or an FBCM roo their age.

Okay, y'all. I have a chick. It seems to have a problem. Now, I have read about this a little, but not much available information out there. From what I gather, it will dry up and the chick will be fine. Anyone heard of a "rough navel"? I don't know if that is what this is. It is definitely a large round, red mass on its abdomen. I have only found one picture of a rough navel and it doesn't look much like what this chick has. It is on its back and seems ticked off about that. I would post a pic, but it is graphic. I guess this is the place to do it. I think I will start a thread. There is always the opportunity for learning.
My understanding is that it is caused by either too high humidity during hatching or too hig heat during incubation. Both have happened, but only for a short time.
I hope it is going to be okay.
Several more pips!! One is zipping. And we are so excited that "Steve" the polish is pipped and starting to zip!!

ETA: Further reading leads me to believe this isn't rough navel, but unabsorbed yolk.

gckiddhouse ~ go ahead and post a pic. Your little chick problem can't possibly be any more graphic than those "What is this my chicken laid" threads out there. Now those my friend are really nasty little pictures of some weird eggroll looking things that make you go wash after you read about them.

Don't be worried just put in the title that there is a graphic pic. Then everyone got fair warning. I hope you little chick gets better. Keep us updated.
