Arizona Chickens

gckiddhouse: Looks like you got 4 EEs. and 3 W/BW Ameraucanas. the BWA X Ancona is beautiful I can't wait to see how it feathers out. I so hope they are all pullets!

I sold three of my EE hens this evening.. I only have the one old rescue EE hen remaining and I will rehome her in the next month or so. Also sold a Partridge Cochin and one of my GCMarn X Delaware pullets. The price was right.

Little by little making room for the 5 FBCM pullets, 5 W/BW pullets... one of the W/BW pullets has less than desirable colored legs so I'll probably be selling it. It should lay nice blue eggs but it's not up to standard.

I'm hoping I can buy a dozen or two eggs from Peachick and 18 from pasofinofarm and perhaps some from tailfeathers and incubate them in April. I'm doing a purebred W/BW hatch. That way next year in April I can let go of my 5 current hens that will then be two years old.

... and I'm hoping I don't get 3/4ths roos this next time!

But the roo I got from you is such a nice little roo!

Seriously, I think Jayne is going to be a very good flock husband. The other day one of the 'big girls' was chasing one of the 'little girls' off, because she'd gotten too close. He comes running up, wings flapping and pecked the 'big girl' on her back, just behind her wing. Keep in mind that is just about as high as his head reaches on a basically full grown pullet. She let out a squawk and stopped chasing the little girl. Jayne took off before the larger bird could go after him, proving he isn't entirely stupid.
Today, I had tossed out some meat scraps from a chuck roast I'd made into loose meat, and Jayne ran in to the middle of the big girls, grabbed a big chunk and ran off. Then, he dropped it by one of the little girls, and after she'd gotten a bit, grabbed in up and ran off, and then did the same thing with another one of the little girls. Then he ate what was left. It was really cute.

Mahroni: He's doing much, much better. He's out of ICU, the pneumonia is cleared up, and it looks like his kidneys are starting to work again. At this point, what he needs in intensive rehab, and he's going to be moving to a rehab center in the next week or so. Right now, everything is pointing to him making a full recovery.

Laree: Yeah, he's named after Jayne from Firefly. In the first day or so, it became obvious that he had the same mix of sweetness and more testosterone than brains as the character.

For what it is worth, my oldest son was going to buy some penedesenca eggs off of ebay. He showed me the listing, and I recognized the picture. It had been posted on this site before. I am not sure if they stole the picture or if it is the same person selling the eggs. The price was outrageous.

Well, it is his money, let him waste it if he wants to. But he had better not let his mother know how much he is paying for those eggs. We already have had bad experiences with shipped eggs.

I think tofuranch has Wellies. Then you wouln't have to ship. But if you wait a month, lots of people will be wanting "testers" for their eggs. I just got 20+ eggs for $.01.

Cheap cheeps, yo.

Also, I will probably be ordering from onthespot again soon. We could always split an order.

Wonder if a fan would dry the chickens too much? If the air is dry and you blow it over the chickens...
How about one of those summer-play things, fans with misters built onto them (for kids, originally)?

Need to post a question about strange eggs - how do I initiate a post here? I don't see a 'POST Message' link anywhere...??

Lots of us use misters, frozen water bottles, fans, and wading pools. BUT- in the end, SHADE and WATER is really what you need. Everything else is just "extra". Don't get me wrong, I pamper mine--but shade, shade, shade, shade, shade, shade!

If you ahve a question, make sure you go to the appropriate thread, as you will get a better response. Although the folks here seem pretty knowledgeable.
