Congrat's on the new babies! Good luck withthe build.
Now that you mention it, my DH picked one up about 7 months ago and it is in my computer room, waiting for him to fix it. I wonder if I could convince him to help me make an incubator out of it. Do you all have instructions on how to make one? Or is there a post on BYC?
Thanks!!!
Angie
Chrystalgail showed how she made hers and I loved it when I saw it. It looked hard but its alot easier than I thought once I saw what I was doing. The thing I worried about most was the electrical part. At home depot they have these porcilin (sp) light fixtures that are $1.49 that can be mounted in the fridge. It has no wiring so you'd need a cord. I am not handy enough to try to make a plug so I bought one that was premade and it was as simple as wrapping the wire around a screw and tightening the screw. I was worried that I would do it wrong but the cord has a smooth texture on one wire and a ribbed texture on the other wire so I was able to tell which was hot and nuteral. It was easy.
The fan was $10.99 at radio shack. I didnt buy a power cord because I have a box full of cords that I can kill if I need to, and they wanted way too much for a cord at radio shack.Target also has a small cheap 3 speed fan that is $12.99 that might fit in the bottom of the fridge too.
I think I found the temp/humidity gauge at Home Depot for about $16.99. I havent bought that yet. I think Target online has one at the same price too and off hand I cant recall which one was better.
The repti temp 500R I got from ReptileSupply.com and it cost $38 including the shipping cost. I hadnt planned on buying one but Chrystal really likes hers and I thought that if she likes it that much its going to be worth it in the long run to spend the money. She said its easy to use also.
I havent made the racks for eggs yet. My fridge has removable shelves and I was hoping to be able to use them somehow but I think I will end up having to remove them and make all new racks. If I end up needing to heat the water I will steal the heater from the fish tank.
When my husband has a few days off, I am going to ask him to do all the drilling and make egg baskets for it so I can start testing it out and see how it works out. I love the fact that it has a glass door and I can see in without opening the door.
