Have a great evening!!

Mahonri: It is indeed the roo I got from you. I was especially impressed because Jayne really just started covering the girls-on the 8th none of the eggs were fertile, and when I checked for fertility on the 15th, half of them were. I think that it took him awhile to get started because he isn't very aggressive, which I, personally, think is a good thing. He's been crowing too, he's got a pretty good set of lungs, but he mostly crows in the late afternoon.
I'll have to post some pics of Jayne, he's growing up to be quite a looker. I think that he would be SQ, if he wasn't clean faced. On the other hand, a SQ roo at my house would be a total waste, as I've got a mixed flock, and don't have any plans to change that. All I want in a roo is that he'll be good tempered, look handsome as he struts around the yard and make lots of pretty EE babies, and Jayne fits the bill perfectly.

Cool.. that he's getting the job done... that means I had TWO clean faced roos in the incubator hatch. (Laree sent the other one to freezer camp)

Haven't had any clean faced hens since last year and I traded that one to Sam the Yam.

I hope everyone is enjoying their long Memorial Day Weekend!

We are using the days to get the minor repairs and maintenance done on our cars, and cleaning up the yard. And of course, sneaking in a nap here and there (my favorite part).

I got the chicken pen cleaned up yesterday, and we put 10 of my DS's showbird eggs under our broody bantam RIR. Hopefully, in 3 weeks, he will have some more little chicks. The rest of our 28 chicks are doing great. 26 of the chicks are Buckeye chicks which require a high protein diet, so yesterday, I added soybean meal into their chick feed.

Have a great day, everyone!

Cheerful--Origionally Dozerhad 6 eggs. Earlier this week she busted one & played with it---it had a fairly large embryo, so I dunno what happened. I candled Dozer's remaining eggs and tossed 3. All were yolkers: the pullet eggs from when the Alohas started laying. So that leaves her with 2 eggs, chugging along.

Everyone else: busy weekend---the DH is drywalling and all sorts of awful projects. Awful because they require me to be out of the house with the kids AAAALLL DAY. He may be working harder, but I gaurantee I am more tired.

Yesterday I took the kids to Sommer's---we picked up 3 turkeys

Redrocketrooster: so far most folks are thinking Meaty is a New Hampshire (although we did get her from a feed store in N Phoenix and I guess they're kinda rare)

She is just a kick. We got home a little after dusk and we had to do a Meaty hunt around the yard....groping around in the coop I could only find three and after about 15 minutes we found her roosted up on top of one of out outdoor speakers.

Thanks to Mahonri & Laree for the guesses on breeds!!

So far the consensus seems to be:

Damien (or Damienne

) Bantam MFU - leaning pullet
Meaty NH - pullet
Aggro Bantam GLS - roo
Sofa GLW - pullet

On a side note, I am slowly learning the acronyms around here....now I know what MFU is!

HI...

Yes I am breeding chicks...I have 8 different kinds right now inculding RIR. If you want more info just email or pm me, I don't want to bore everyone on the list.

By Sept I will have Buff Brahmas and some other kinds too...right now it is 8 different breeds with some others coming up by Sept. I don't usually Vaccinate but can do whatever you want me too, it isn't hard to do I would just need to know to do it.

Back to trying to get a few things done. Yesterday went ok and I hope that the next few days go as smoothly. What we are still doing is being there for a very sweet lady that has dementia. Her daughter passed away on Friday and there really isn't very much family....we are like extended family.

hi Mahonri - I have 1 clean faced pullet from you, and I'm keeping her -she's so sweet and I think she will be beautiful. She's from the Splash Ameraucana hen and the Blue Wheaten rooster, so the clean face could have come from the Splash's side. She's very creamy and has a lot of wheaten coloring - I'll post pics later.

Ugh, having a crappy morning ... I have a sinus infection, feel terrible, and now I just got word from my mother that she can't come visit, and I was really looking forward to seeing her, so I am really affected by this news, she was coming for my son's 2nd birthday and I just wanted him to have his grandma here, you know?

Of course she also told me about some B.S. my dad is having to deal with at work, his employers have already proven themselves to not care about their loyal employees (he's worked for them for 35+ years and they recently made it so his retirement bonus will be less than it would have been), I had thought they were done bugging him since he is months from retirement but ha! There is always room for more, apparently *bitter*

And I can't get rid of my silkie rooster!!!

Since no one responded to my craigslist ad, I've been calling the Stock Shop everyday to check if they have room for him. We had planned on getting rid of him this weekend but the Stock Shop still has no cages open, Pratt's is closed on Sundays, and I don't know of any other feed store that will take roosters ... I know this seems trivial but it's just that last little bit of straw on my back. I just want to crawl under the covers and cry, but I already scared my 2-year-old by crying in front of him. Blah.

Sorry for the whining, just had to vent ... sigh

I've got quite a few roosters that I would like to get rid of. They range in age from 12-16 weeks. If someone from here is interested in taking 1, 2 or all I'm open to giving them for free. I also have a hen that needs a home as well. Just letter me know.
