Well, all of a sudden my chickens stopped laying. Three hens went broody and are sitting on golf balls. The one hen that my grand daughter put eggs under got up and pooped and ate. Then she went back to sitting on the wrong nest. We checked the abandoned eggs and there was no development.
Those eggs had been in the refrigerator. I am not sure if that caused a problem or not. We probably should have let them sit on the counter for a couple of hours and come to room temperature. But with the heat out there, it probably would be a miracle if they hatched.
I will post when and if those titlist golf balls hatch.
I remember when the hens would go broody my mother would dunk them in water to break them of it. I think changing the body temperature might be what did it.
I am glad Maharoni made peace with the neighbors. Sometimes neighbors can be a real pain.
We still have trouble with flies. I had those bottle traps, and they worked fine for the first few days, but then they began to smell like dead bodies. They got really rank after a week or two. The wife and kids threw them into the trash bin. Now I have those sticky tape hanging up. They catch all of the trash from the trees and not so many flies.
Those huge trash bins are where the flies breed. After the trash gets picked up, I can still see the maggots on the bottom of the thing. If the neighbors would keep the lid closed, we would not have that problem. But every time they take out the trash, they leave the lid up.
I guess there is no winning the fly war.
