Arizona Chickens

Flagstaff is really awesome I admit-however when I was digging all that snow out of the chicken run this winter Tucson was looking pretty good for a while

If only I had the money and flexibility to have a desert home and a mountain home and we could move w/ the seasons!

Broody with the chicks.... the blue one and the white one are the ones she hatched, the three RIR and two EEs we got from Pratts

Here is a little BWA X Black Star.... I hope it's a pullet!

The white one is a BWA X Cinnamon Queen. The little RIR in the foreground is NOT dying!

I have one of each. Oh, wait, it isn't a BS cross, it is with the Ancona.
The BWA x Ancona is a very pretty roo - darn. He has that beautiful copper on his wings and back. Just a little. Other than that, he is all smokey black with muffs and an interesting comb.
The BWA x CQ is an almost all white roo - darn. He just has some light buff feather tips on his back.
They were neat combos, but I got both roos. I hope you get pullets!!

I will be selling some of my wheaten ameraucana pullets in September. They lay beautiful blue eggs.

This pullet that I had named Genae and re-named Ginger laid her first egg yesterday... the one in the middle on the left.

Thanks for asking how I'm doing. I am really in a LOT of pain, severe headaches all afternoon. Just took a couple ibuprophen and some nyquil hoping that will take care of it.

I had to brag and share my newest addition to my chicken family. I am so totally in love with her and she is the sweetest thing and she lets me hug her and pet her and hold her LOL. Okay enough gushing!!

Not sure what to name her yet? Any suggestions?

Mahonri, your broody in the carrier is seriously pretty.

The couple that took Pooky and Oatmeal dropped off Pookys first egg. It was such a kind and generous thing to do. ;--;
I really want to thank them but since I've switched phones. ARG! Here it is...it's a fart egg but by George I am so proud!

Mahonri-- I would love to provide a loving home for a lovely Wheaton Ameraucana Pullett! Please let me know when you would be willing to part with one and how much you would like for her. When the worst of this heat is over would be perfect!
I hope that you are not in too much pain today:/

Hello Arizona folks,

My baby chicks finally turned 4 weeks old (Yaaaay!) and most of them moved to the tractor outside. But, have you noticed we are in the triple digits temperatures? Of course you did!!
So, 3 of my chicks seem way too small and still mostly fuzzy to go out with the other ones (who look like actual pullets).
I am not worried at all that the 3 little runts will be cold, but I am terrified of putting them outside in this horrible heat.
Any suggestions? Will they be just fine?
My 5 week old pullet pants like crazy until I turn the misters on. Then she scratches her head annoyed at the droplets.
They all look like they are wearing hair gel! lol

Thanks for any advice!

Oh, and Mahonri, your Broody is GORGEOUS!!!

El barrio entero esta de luto. Mexico fue derrotado por Argentina. I guess that is life.

Mahonri, sorry about the mishap. Be careful with the scratches and bruises. MRSA seems to be everywhere now days. I have a bottle of iodine my mother bought years ago. I use it on everything, and it seems to still work.

Good luck with the chicks. I believe Pratt's gets their chicks from Privett in New Mexico. At least that is what one of the kids told me years ago. That may have changed.

We were supposed to go to Pratt's to buy chicken feed Saturday, but my son had to go fix someone's air conditioner. I guess we will make it later in the week.

My neighbors are selling their chickens. They are moving to North Carolina to work in a chicken processing plant. They are certain that Sherriff Joe will raid the whole state and send everyone back to anywhere but here. I hate to see them go; they are nice people.

But they heard Obama say that if they went to buy their kids ice cream, they would be arrested and deported. Would Obama lie?

The chickens are mutts. They had some scroungy bantums when they moved in to the neighborhood. We gave them enough chicks to improve their stock.

I still have one stubborn broody sitting on the golf balls. I have given her a bath with the hose several times; it did no good.

I had a problem with someone pecking the eggs. I laid an egg down in the grass and then sat myself down in a lawn chair and waited. It was the rooster. He is now in administrative segregation. That solved the problem.

My wife thinks that he would fit into a large crock pot quite nicely. She has always disliked the roosters. I suspect she never could accept the violence of chicken love.
