Arizona Chickens

I tried to vote today but my vote wasn't counted. Apparently in 2003 I register to vote and didn't know which party to vote with, so I eeny meeny miney mo'd it. Moved to Maricopa and voted with the opposite and now that I'm in Pinal county again I was informed that I had to vote with the other party or spoil the ballot. I am a bit irritated.

I voted early ballot by mail. Doesn't look like my vote did much good, I really wanted McCain to retire.

After work I went hiking up in the preserve. It was still extremely hot. I was hoping for a breeze with all of the dark clouds around, but nothing.

It must have blown at my house because the pool was FULL of leaves and seeds from my neighbors trees.

Chickens survived another day. Yeah!

Noskiveez: I hope to be around after five tomorrow....if I'm not, someone will be here to give your hubby the eggs.

Hate to be a pest, but did you know that there is no such thing as "an illegal"? A person cannot be illegal; only an act is illegal. Unless we start referring to every person who has ever driven over the speed limit as "an illegal", then can we please all agree to say "undocumented immigrant", or if you prefer, "illegal immigrant"? The English language has had enough injustices committed against it ...

Now excuse me, I have to go berate people who misspell "definitely"

Hello everyone. The heat here in Tucson has been brutal over the past two days too. Finally, yesterday afternoon all heck broke loose and the sky opened up. I think we got something like 3/4". We also must have had a microburst, there are downed trees all over the neighborhood, including one in my back yard. My coop held up just fine, thankfully. Hopefully everyone North of us got some too.

Mahonri, I'm so sorry to hear about your complaining neighbor. I'm worried now, I have a Cuckoo Marans, are Marans stinkier than other birds or is it just their proximity to your neighbor?

Mahonri, get some Sweet PDZ, it chemically alters the ammonia, thus removing odors. Also dries as well or better than DE. You can get either granular or powder; I prefer the granular form. Also, consider using rice hull bedding; it seems to dry out more rapidly than shavings.

Yes, the NW part of Tucson got a downpour, then a steady rain for a few hours. It was nice.
I'm glad your chickens and coop weren't affected with that fallen tree.

Suze,

Where do I get the Sweet PDZ and the rice hulls? I tried cotton seed hulls but that only makes things worse!!!

It seems much better in the backyard today.

Off for my last two patients of the day.

Thanks Angie, The funny thing was, my wife and I thought we'd go and check out the coop's performance in a really good storm. We were inside the coop when the big blast went through. Our coop sits under a large eucalyptus and for a very unsettling 60 sec. I thought it was all going to come down on us. We couldn't see 5 feet through the rain and when it let up, we were not too surprised to see the downed mesquite. Thankfully we only lost power for a short time. I understand there are people in town that had no power as of this morning.
