Arizona Chickens

I can so understand how you're loving it. I grew up in AZ and over the last 40 years Wickenburg was practically my weekend home (split weekends between Prescott & Wickenburg). Love the area and the quiet living. I lived in New River for years before it was populated and have always enjoyed the wildlife, although it required constant vigilance....once caught a coyote tip-toeing from the brush towards my goats while I was right there in the garden. One of my hens alerted to it so all ended well, well, I should say it did for my animals.

That's great you now have a feed store near you. Sure makes for shorter drives. And the air-drop vaccines were targeted for fox but I don't know if it included your county. Gotta love the small town grape vine -- I'm sure they'll know if it did.

The last time I was in Congress was last winter, on the back road to Prescott. There was lots of snow on the mountain and it was beautiful.

Tour de Coops was very cool yesterday, although we didn't make it down to the east valley because of our late start

We toured the central locations which were all really neat in their own ways (for those of you that went, D-K with the exception of G). The coop hosts and tour organizers were all very friendly and helpful!

It was a source of inspiration for coops, runs and garden/combos. Our ladies have free range over the whole backyard right now which makes them very happy, but they sure can trash the yard and patio! Unfortunately we don't have room (truly) for a garden or fenced run with the pool and koi pond. Ahh...next time.

Laree - congratulations on losing the job, I'm glad you are outta there! Unless you are secretly upset about it. In which case I'm sorry to hear the bad news.

Here's another Aloha project chicken (I have 3 all together, one is a boring red color, then there is the pretty one you have pictures of. This is #3. I think he is a he):

And, my favorite picture:

And, for Mahonri. Some of the beautiful eggs you gave me (I just got around to uploading):

I found this while I was cleaning up the coop. Schematics! In fact, I suspect they are evil schematics. I always knew the chickens were up to something while I was at work.

I saw that one long ago....pre-chickens. I caught the last half of it again a couple of weeks ago and laughed so hard!

I'm pretty sure they're plotting, although I don't think they want to leave, they just want to break into the house for more chicken treats

I catch them looking in the patio door...maybe they're casing the joint!?

When I hear my roosters crow, I know all is good.

Like this morning, I think all 11 roosters were crowing this morning, and some of the hens were doing their thing, too.

Angie

I can not hear them crowing anymore. I sold some chicks today and the family was amazed at how loud the roosters are and I really didn't think it was loud.

NoSkiveez, congrats on selling some chicks! I think I saw a few of your ads on CL.

I just let all of my roosters out of rooster jail to make sure the eggs are fertile for the great hatch, and hoping that maybe it will prompt some of my lazy butts to get back to work. Only had probably 5 roosters in with the girls, now it's more like 30, give or take. LOTS of crowing and fornicating going on this morning!

I'm starting to think that when people say that chickens are dirty they mean something entirely different than what I had originally thought.

Not one egg was laid today. First time in a long time.

Oh well. I hope I get at least another dozen before Saturday, but if not, that's the way the cookies crumble I suppose.
