Arizona Chickens

Where did this day go? well I guess I did take a nap.

And another week begins now that that National Bantam has been sung and the Lombardi heads back to Green Bay.

Well, feeding bread to my NY chicks is working. my cross beaked roo fly's right up on my lap and falls asleep now and LOVES to be stroked.

That cross beak is so bad though... I don't know how it can survive. makes me sad, I seriously can't believe it's still alive.

I am soooo sad about the Super Bowl. I graduated with James Farrior (#51 for Pitt) in an itty bitty town in VA. It was exciting to go to school and sit in classes (although it was less fun having him in my PE class) with and watch someone with that much talent. I suppose he already has 2 rings from the last 2 Super Bowls with the Steelers. And he got to call the coin toss, which was exciting to see. He lost that, too.

HAHA! I know it's just a game, but still.

That is really sweet about your rooster. Can you post pics of him? How does he eat like that?

I have no clue how he eats or stays alive. I will take pics.

Friday I'll be planting Tomatoes and peppers again... I hope that doesn't give us another cold spell!

Why are you getting rid of all of your crested chickens? I really, really want to expand and get some more chickens, but my dh says no way. I am still trying to figure out how I can at least get a polish hen in there without upsetting him. There are about 5 other breeds we really want, too. I just wonder why you more experienced folks choose some breeds over others.

I sold all 4 of my polish, because their flockmates would not stop picking at their crests and making the poor things bald -- the no pick lotion was not enough of a deterrent.
The new owner of 2 of them, just wrote me that the SLP is her favorite chicken now, so sweet and likes to set on her lap -- I always like to hear when my chickens find a good home.

Mahonri - I just put down several chicks with a cross beak. It was not noticed at hatch but about 2 weeks later it was slightly off and 2 weeks after that it was terrible. I was happy that I was able to pin point the bird that carried that defect and eliminate him. I used a modified tupperware bowl, lid, fish tank hose and a vinegar / baking soda mixture to CO2 them.

Whoa.. that sounds complicated. I prefer the flathead shovel in the rocks method. Noskiveez, do you recall about when these OE's hatched? I was thinking they were about 8 weeks, but they're not feathered out enough to convince me of that... unless you tell me otherwise, of course!

Let me think...i think these were my new years day chicks. I think they hatched on 12/30 or 12/31. I think there were 2 or 3 weeks old when you got them.

Wow Cluckin_Crazy that seems a little tricky dont they try and run away!! on a lighter note I am still looking for some Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas eggs or chicks no need for show quality just pet quality. Just let me know!!
