do they often give up this easily?

I used to have a homemade, and it wasn't the greatest experience for me. My hatch rate was under 20%, I got lots of deformed chicks and other problems. I know lots of people can make it work, but I couldn't. I kept telling myself this is not rocket science. Since I've gotten a manufacturd incubators I've had only one bad hatch (it involved at still air).

I will be taking them off the turner Monday and put them in the hatcher. I will let you know the progress. Hopefully it will be a good hatch. These are the first chicken eggs to go in the sportman. Prior, its only been quail.

DM, so sorry to hear about your companion! You cannot describe in words what a good dog gives you every day. Several years ago I had to put down a very dear horse who was incurably sick. As painful as it was to see him go, the look in his eyes told me that he was glad to leave his ailing body behind. I almost could not be too sad, it would not have been fair. He gave me all he had. It was time to let him go... As we waited for the vet to give him that dreaded shot I fed him a whole bucket of grains. Due to his illness he had not been allowed to eat grains for a long time. This was not going tu hurt him so I figured what the heck. He died a happy camper, he LOVED grains

No thanks, Vanessa... I'm over hatching inside... I wanted to try it out, it was a bust, so I don't want to risk that again. If I ever get a broody out of my hybrids (not likely) I will try it again - obviously not with quail, but I'm sure someone here will have some eggs for whenever that time comes.

SOOOO grateful for this rain!!!! My dumb chickens are all outside eating all the pellets that aren't pellets anymore. I don't understand the fascination... maybe they think it's something new or a treat? They go out of their way to get wet, fallen apart pellets off the ground like it's gold. I think today is going to be the first day that every single one of them has laid... the 6th one is out there in a next box now. I'm excited! (it's the small things...)

I'm in Tucson. It's a little 'cooler' than in Mesa. I have my hens in a large dog run (to protect them from feral cats that we had trouble with last year). The run is covered with garden type shade cloth and under Palo Verde & mesquite trees. On really hot days I will give them cold treats like cottage cheese or bits of frozen tomatoes and place a block of ice in their water. I have a large water container for them so they never run out of water.

Hope everyone is doing ok!

The thread goes by so fast lately i can barely keep up.

So anyone have any young chicks they would get rid of (sell) and i mean week old or less if possible. I can go to the feed store but thought i would check here first. Have a broody that i cant seem to break and she has been at it now for a long time so i guess i should give her some babies.
