Neighbors are either a blessing or a curse. I am so glad you proved them wrong.
My fly problem has started in earnest. Unfortunately, this year it IS me. We let the weeds get too tall, and I couldnt find all the dog poop. Add that to a batch of non-stop turding meaties and I am fly central.
Not that I am alone in my neighborhood. EVERYONE has an aviary of some sort. My big complaint is the lady with the ducks and the stagnant water. I think my veryveryvery first BYC post was about her. Yesterday I realized someone has a full half-acre of peacock aviary. I haven't heard them squawk once.
...gonna go make nice nice and offer to hatch eggies for free. Shane says I can't have peafowl, but OH I want to hatch some.
Back to flies: I started battling the flies early this year, but a few days after I dried out the coop, it rained. And rained again. SO: Currently I have 6 fly traps in strategic places. Yesterday I mowed the lawn and today I spent all moring with a shovel, hacking at the weed bases. Tomorrow morning I am going to get all the poop, re-till the chicken run and meatie pen, and dump all the chicken poo/mulch into the "cooking" part of the garden.
...Asssuming the DH brings my wheelbarrow back. He stole it yesterday for a job, I havent seen it yet.
I've wondered if we can feed Simplifly (for horses) to chickens, and what the dosage would be...
