Arizona Chickens

Setting Mahonri eggs, and I filled in the blanks with (gasp) 6 day old Trader Joes Fertile eggs. What could it hurt? I don't have any white egg layers and wouldn't it be cool if just one of them hatched?

Soon as I get the wine cooler incubator running consistently I'll move them all over.

Well all but one of the white ones you got from me are Icelandic eggs and they are white egg layers.

I'm doubtful on the fertility.. But, wouldn't it be great if you were the first to hatch Icelandic eggs from the first Icelandics in AZ?

I need to see pics of the chicks!

Thanks for the cuke and the soap... it smelled heavenly.

Sorry I also couldn't come to the door....Genesis 3:10

We got another serama egg, and it's too funny because the hen laid it in my canvas chair - LOL! I have a picture but I'll have to download it later

Thanks Sonoran Silkies for the tips on desert chick raising. We now have two, the Partridge and a White Silkie. At least we had two last night, this morning I only saw one, but then it nestled under Mama and I couldn't see anything at all so maybe the Partridge was still underneath sleeping.

Ok gang.... need some help! I have a 9 month old BR with some health issues but I don't know enough to help her. We thought she had an injury to a leg about 7-8 wks ago as she was limping pretty bad. We thought maybe she hurt herself jumping down from the roost one morning as there was no signs of bumble foot or other obvious injury. This gradually cleared up. Then about a week ago she took a turn for the worse. The could not walk correctly and looked like she was "drunk". After about 1 1/2 day of that we separated her to a small dog crate to keep her quiet and to protect her from the other chickens who were beginning to pick on her since she couldn't get away from them. She went for 4 1/2 days without laying but did lay a normal egg this morning in her crate. She eats, drinks, poops and is still as vocal as normal. Her color is good and the only signs that something is wrong is the balance issue. She still cannot walk properly and stumbles when she tries to move around.

We really don't know enough to nurse her back to health nor do we really have a place to keep her isolated for long term. I really need to know if any of you have any suggestions or if anyone wants to take her to nurse her back to health. She has always been a good layer until the 4 day break and is one of our sweetest ladies. I can't bring myself to cull her and thought maybe someone might want to try to nurse her back to health and get a super sweet BR in return.

Any help would be appreciated!!
