Mahonri, sorry about the losses. It's been a tough season for your birds. I've been worrying about promoting coccidiosis with all the watering to cool things down, it hadn't occurred to me that it could also promote IB.

I started giving the younger chickens supplements in the water (like gatorade). At these temps the chicken food looses vitamins by the minute.

Hello again everyone.

I ended up purchasing two 6 week old Speckled Sussex pullets from the feed store last Sunday. We were just so close when we were at church that I had to ask hubby if we could swing by and just see what they had. They had those, 4 week old Buff Orpingtons that I was seriously considering, and I think 6 week old white rocks (although the whiteboard on the front of the coop said barred rock..which they were most def. not). They've been outside all week and seem to be doing well since we started putting ice packs outside as well as wetting the ground in the early afternoon. I don't want to put up a misting system if possible because where I live water prices are horrendous. This summer will not end fast enough!

So the other night when the dust storm hit I went outside to take picture of course. LOL...Now I read there could be serious cases of Valley Fever break out....duh what was I thinking? Can chickens get Vallley Fever too? I know dogs and cats can.
