Arizona Chickens

Good night all. And to each and every one of you, thanks for being on BYC with me. This has enriched my life. I'm going to go look up recipes for canning apples with Pastrymama.

Not sure it will make you feel better but the icelandic egg is definitely developing (so are 2 of the ameraucanas for sure, not so sure about the others; can't tell the OE's I am not used to eggs that dark; Maran is probably no good but the other EE's are). Just a preliminary candling...

How on earth can you be this fast with cleaning up! How come they don't give you more time?! Like the neighbor is going to die if you don't do it right away?
Mean jealous people! Do I ever wish there was an app for THAT!!!

Wow, you guys are a lot better people then I am. If I knew who it was that forced me to get rid of a hobby/passion, I'm not so sure how well their "pride and joys" would do or last. Unfortunately I'm a hold a grudge kinda guy so it wouldn't sit to well with me; one of those faults I need to work on.
I had to do a head count this afternoon, so many bunches of loose feathers around I thought something had gotten to my flock. We did put a lock on the coop door though, 12 hens and only 2 eggs in the past 2 days. I know the heat effects the laying but still sounds fishy to me. Looked everywhere for hiding places but came up with nothing.

Well hope everyone has a good and safe Labor day tomorrow!

I got 17 of aurora rose's birds too. 4 Cochins. 1 BWAmeraucana. 3 blue ameraucanas. 2 buff orps. 1 black orp. 1 lav orp. 3 BLRW. 2 bantam Cochins.

I have had them in quarantine and have also had growth issues. I bumped up protein intake. Dusted with mite powder. Using DE in food and dust baths. They are still way small.

I have all rooster Ameraucanas. The BLRW are not blue yet either and look just like yours CA.

I'm hoping they start growing soon. They are so tame and my kids love them but I might be better off starting over.

I'm so sorry to hear of all the bird issues in town. If anyone is looking to get rid of any Ameraucana pullets/hens please let me know.

Thanks. Reed.

Meg ... think benadryl tablet in cheese ...

we used to do that with the Jack Russel that barked all day and all night when we lived in a condo with a backyard the size of our current master bedroom. We just looked up the correct dose for allergies for his approximate weight, put it in cheese and chucked over the fence in the middle of the night if he wouldn't shut up.

Water blast would be great too, as long as they will let the dogs in. In our situation, they NEVER let the poor dog inside, which I'm sure is why he barked all of the time.

Both creative suggestions (but no, thanks for the smiles, but no). It normally doesn't bother me, but this new resentment is simply a function of lack of fairness...his pets are more important than mine? Mine were quieter.

Ya know I'd suggest a couple of crushed oleander leaves in a meatball, but it's not really the dog's fault.

Maybe a nice spaghetti dinner for your neighbor?

Good morning Pastrymama,

All is well in Morristown..... Barely even a squabble at intro and the only ones that gave the blue any grief were her own. These are some very sweet birds and the kids love them! Have fun with that 78 pounds of apples

Oh, thanks so much for that update. I was thinking about them last night, especially that spunky dellie with the super black tail. She's the one that insists on being hugged if you squat down(right after she's given you a good hard peck in the back!) I will miss them for certain, but with all these complaints and everything else I have going on, I needed to keep it legal and try to fly under the radar. Thank you again for helping me out. I certainly hope that when it cools off they give you lots of eggs. And the blue cochin can sit on them for you!

oh, i made a pie last night and it didn't even dent the apple load.

Oleander leaves in meatballs, benadryl in cheese? What great ideas! Of coarse I'd try the benadryl before the poisonous leaves. Problem is I like the neighbors, just can't stand those little yappers. Seriously as soon as I open my back door they run to the fence and bark non stop until the heat finally gets to them.

I'm with you. Meg is way too nice. I'm not a "turn the other cheek kinda guy. I'm more of the "never again!" school of thought.

Meg, don't stop being you!

I am NOT doing a "turn the other cheek". I am going to the board meeting and protesting and arguing and researching my rights. I can find NOTHING in the CC&R's nor the published by-laws which prohibits chickens, nor the number of chickens one may keep. PMG overstepped their bounds and unless someone on the board reins them in I will take further action. Now I have to go see about planting that dead spot in my front yard where grass refuses to grow, as I have received another letter saying that I must both mow and grow better grass. Or be fined on the 15th. They are definitely poking the dragon.
