Arizona Chickens

OK - so I got zero done on the new coop today - I spent the day in the backyard.

Cleaned out the coop/run/grow out pen

Sprayed Oxine all over EVERYTHING!

New litter.

Put up a bucket bracket

Made a 4 nipple water-er out of a Homer bucket.

Put up a shelf in the grow out pen.

Made a heat lamp attachment on the shelf

Bought an ultrasonic humidifier - filled it with diluted Oxine and switched it on!

What a day!

Princess utilizing the new water-er with 2 poofies blocking the view

No worries - there is no power to that open electrical box.

The young'uns slept outside last night - the big girls are not happy they lost part of their run again.

(Am I anthropomorphizing?)

You sure did have busy day. Love the new additions you made to the coop. I think you need another day off.

Hubby installed water nipples today for the big girls. I should have taken a pic. They went and checked it out and a couple of them figured it out. He used the last nipple on a pop bottle for the little girls. Will see how everyone likes them.

Not chicken related, but...Look what we found when we opened up our TinkerToy set. They really should have listed him on the "contents".

And I thought the stork brought babies!!

D is getting so big. Why can't they still little longer?

Finally! Someone got bit by the silkie bug. Way to go novaleigh!
On a sad note, I went out to my silkie coop yesterday morning and found my black silkie pullet dead it seemed for no reason. I have never had that happen before. I just did a mite/lice check when laree's post came out, but I regularly check them. Then this morning, another one down, lethargic, not dead. I picked her up and checked her over head to all her crazy toes. There they were, mites hiding on her poofy head and not that many. I made the 6 year old help me catch all the birds and eprinex every one of them. I hope I am not too late for this silkie. Tomorrow will be dusting all the babies and juvies, but I checked them and they were fine but I will take no chances. Coops will be cleaned and dusted. Ducklings are in the garage.

So sorry to hear this. Hope all goes well with the other one.

haha, thanks for asking. actually we went and bought a filet kit (on clearance at wally world) and processed 4 this afternoon. we chose the skinning option and i think it went pretty well. took the longest time on the first, learning where to make all the cuts and so forth. all total, 2 hours and lots of learning experience. i am proud of myself, a little amazed that i did it.

going to dust the coop tomorrow and worm the girls next week, getting everything in order for when they start to lay - which hopefully will be SOON. oh, quick question for everyone. is it ok to worm pre-emptively, or should we wait until we need to?

I prefer to worm whether they need it or not. That's probably the way most others do??

Here are my silky chicks 3 weeks old. The dark ones are sizzles and so is one of the lighter ones. These chicks came from the eggs I got from Aurorarose! 6 are paint silkies. I thought only one was going to be a color but the older they get the more color is showing up. I think I have 2 splash! I know I can't keep them all but it is so hard to choose. Of course I will keep them until I know who are roos. Thank Aurorarose sooo much!
