Obviously I need to seek out that movie!!

I'm at work till 10:30, so the pics will have to wait until later. It's basically a 1x2 mounted on top of a wooding floor (box) with Sweet PDZ in the box that acts like a kitty litter box. It's so simple and works great! I'll post pics tomorrow.

Quote: My experience with black widows is different; I had widows do a number on several of my silkies last summer. Once I rid the coop of them I had no more problems. In general, I don;t think DE is good for much except drying things out, and Sweet PDZ does a better job. It makes no insecticidal claims. My rat catching cats like to lie down nearby and watch the silkies. I wouldn't trust them with young birds, but if the birds are at least half grown, the cats are fine.

Not seeing predators does not mean they are not there. It has been several years since I have seen a coyote in our neighborhood, but neighbors see them periodically. People catty-corner to me lost a number of birds to one last year, and they saw it, so they know it was the culprit. I live in the middle of the city.

Mikey you might want to take a cruise around your yard/coop/run area at night with a black light and look for 'em (they glow in black lights). I get so mad when I see 'em hanging out next to my sleeping ladies!

That sounds like a great idea for a teenage activity!

Of course Walt will probably save them up in a jar and milk the venom for poison tipped blow darts...

I saw a multi LED UV flashlight at Walgreens for around $16.
My preferred scorpion weapon is a nice big hammer (I've even used the mallet-sized sledge hammers). There is something satisfying about it, not to mention being a lot farther from the tail tip.

The wiffee just got back from Hobby Lobby on Greenfield and US-60 and a bunch of their chicken decorations are on clearance. I'll call the stores now to let them know the word is out and there will be a bunch of chicken freaks screaming crazily through their stores buying up all the rest.

My wife decorated our kitchen with a chicken theme.

I cooked up the roo I got from you, Mikey, and he was very tasty. I boiled up the meat, and shredded part of it for taco meat. The rest is going to be soup tomorrow :D

So Tammy & I go out to let out the cluckers and feed them some corn on the cob.

When sallying through the coop / run I noticed an egg on the shelf - a tad bit small and quite lighter colored then all the rest!

We think someone started laying.

Culprits could be

GSL (possibility because I found a feather of theirs in the nest box but they haven't reddened up fully yet)

Wellsomer (prolly not 'cause it was way too light but they have reddened up pretty fully now)

App Spitz (prolly not cause I don't think they are ready)

Silkie/cochin cross (prolly not cause she is way too small and the egg was too large for her)

No one is squatting yet so one of my older girls cold have just gotten lazy in the location and pigment department.

We'll have to see over the next couple of days...

Speaking of new layers, my almost 18 wk BRs are both squatting and look like this

1 has left feathers in nesting box and I saw 1 eating the crushed egg shell. I know it's early, but it's gonna be soon, right? Can they look like this forever before starting laying?
