Mama Hen Chris, I'm so sorry to hear about Millie. She was a beautiful bird.

Mahonri, I hope you get out of the hospital soon!

eek, checked the incubator this morning, and the humidity was 28%. is that still in the safe range? i havent checked on it in 2 days - preoccupied with sick chicken - so didnt know it was out of water. the eggs are at 15 days, wednesday is lockdown.

in sick chicken news - i think she is doing better, we changed her name tho. it was Big Fatty, but now its Mrs Skinny. she is wheezing less and honking less so i hope that is a sign that she is improving and not that she is getting weaker. i am encouraged by the fact that she still chases around the other chickens so at least she has the energy for that! oh, i did have her separated but she got so depressed and wouldnt eat or drink (and thats where her meds were) so i put her back with her family. she was much happier today.

azkat thanks for the great kiwi idea, i will do some research on them today so i dont kill it right away, lol

Mahonri: Ack! I didn't know you were IN the hospital. I hope you get better and get out of there soon.

I have some eggciting news. As we all know, peeling hard boiled fresh eggs is a major pain. I've tried all the methods-adding salt to the water, poking a hole in the end, adding baking soda to the water, standing on one leg, boiling the eggs at midnight when the moon is dark. None of them have worked for me. So, when I read about hard boiling eggs in a pressure cooker, I was interested. http://www.hippressurecooking.com/2011/04/hip-modernist-soft-medium-and-hard.html I don't have an automatic pressure cooker, so I did it in my pressure cooker/canner at 7 psi for 6 minutes and used my freshest eggs. The oldest one was 2 weeks old, and even so the eggs came out perfect. A couple, the membrane stuck a little bit, but the egg still peeled really well.

Mama Hen Chris - I'm so sorry about Millie.

Mahonri - Get well soon!

AZKat - Have you ever tried baking them? I keep seeing it on Pinterest but haven't tried it yet. Since I don't have a pressure-anything-er (YET) I'm curious if baking was one of the failed experiments you tried...

Thank you. I feel bad that I couldn't do more for her.
We lost our Gertie this year and she was a barnevelder and it was a respatory thing and I was the same way asking the what ifs, but she died in my arms too and had to feel good that she was not alone, so you did all you could and she died knowing she was loved cause you were with her.

Again a lot of losses happening in the thread! One of my young turkey toms decided to fly down into the dog yard. Dumb bird!

You can guess what happened. It was one of my Royal Palms.
Hubby and I cut the wing feathers on the last 3 young ones. Not a fun job when they are 5-6 months old and don't want it done! I so enjoyed seeing them do their short flights!

I looked online and they are $19 at TSC. Of course we don't have those here. UGH. I hate over paying for stuff

Have you tried the guy that advertises on CL out in Stanfield? They might be a bit cheaper there. Seems like everything is more expensive down here in our corner of the world.

Oh, BTW, 14 days to TWD. Are you psyched?
