Extreme example of chicken math!

We started out with 5 chickens and 1 coop 4 years ago and now we have 11 chickens and 2 coops. The numbers are creeping up for us, not exploding!

Awww, thanks! Kudos to you for getting them all in bed by 8! 'Course you do know they'll be up before dawn. Our kids are down by 8, too. It's great...most nights. Sometimes it's like a hostage negotiation but in reverse: "I'll do anything! Just STAY IN THERE!"

Howdy folks!

Swooping in to say hi!

We lost the second Black Australorp a few weeks ago. Now down to ten.

Freaky and Fuzzy have found a new nest box & I can't find it. Searched everywhere - the only place I can't get to is under the shed & under an AC unit I'm saving for my shop.

All is well. My son agreed to finish the galvanized mega coop so I hope to get some americuna eggs in a week or so.

Pastry agreed to cook them for me so maybe some new chicks in a month-ish.

Of course I'm busier than a one armed paper hanger - kitchen remodel notwithstanding,

My team is the first one shown in the video - we took second place!

Happy clucking!

i was woken at 6am to 5 of the 6 kids screaming and yelling in the tv room. i think the 2 year old is still asleep in my room. they have already eaten and moved on to video games.

We harvested our first tilapia tonight. The first two I could catch with the net, each just over 1.5 lbs. They were simply amazing. The BEST tilapia we've ever eaten. Not bad for the desert.

That is awesome! I'd love to do this...someday...when we have property.

Congrats on your fresh catch. ;)

Good morning! I'm joining the thread, a new chicken momma living in Tucson. We have 4 one-month-old pullets and a coop in construction. Eventually we would like to incorporate them into an aquacultural setup with tilapia and veggies but for now, I'd just like them out of my garage :)

Welcome to the AZ Board!

Training on Nipple Waterer.

I reinstalled my "reburbished" homer bucket nipple waterer a couple of days ago and they don't want anything to do with it. I even put peanut butter on the nipples. I've gone out several times a day and snapped them over (my son trained them with scratch to come at the sound of snapping) and work the nipple to release water but they don't even care. Now they are out there yelling their heads off because I won't refill their old waterer.

Help!
Thanks to everyone for the advice. I went out several times a day-squating down inside their house. They would see the water dripping and drink it off the ground or eachother. Then FINALLY today, one of them reached up at the drip hanging and got it! One by one they all started hitting it! I'm so excited for them! And no more poop waterer cleaning for me.

They are still upset that I'm not letting them free-range while the yard is full of grass seeds.
