Ozark- Mice means there is too much food laying around. Maybe this is controversial but I feed twice a day, once in the morning and once in the late afternoon. The rest of the time they can look for bugs. I keep the food in steel trashcans.
Also, don't understand the bickering. Haven't had RIR's for a long time so maybe it is a breed thing. To they get lots of free range time? Mine get rammy if not let out by 7am or so.

Chicky tocks- wow, do you have to go through that every night? Mine just go in their house.

Hey guys, got a bit of a problem next door. My neighbor has a year and a half old hen whose comb has turned purple/black and her legs too. She is also very lethargic. They thought she is a white leghorn, but she lays brown eggs. The rest of the flock looks fine. She has been separated until we can find out what to do for her. Anyone have any idea what is wrong with her?

The chicken likely has a respiratory problem. The purple comb/legs and lethargy indicate a lack of oxygen. Possibly an obstruction from something swallowed, or could be a illness that is causing lungs to fill with fluid or something like that. Or maybe an impacted crop pressing on the airway causing the bird to suffocate. Not really sure what you can do to help her. Best I can find for you on legs/combs turning purple. Hope she pulls through.

I have assorted Pullets and Roos's I'd like to sell or trade for some pullets or Hens to breed with my NHR roos. Either RIR, NHR, Barred Rock, or any other that will give me sex-link chicks. FYI, don't try to Google sex-links unless you have your adult filter turned on. Anyway. I have about 4 NHR roos, 3 RIR roos, 4 Russian Orloffs(1 roo 3 pullets)4 or 5 black asst( 1 roo 3 hens) the roo I thought was a Australorp he is black with green tinted feathers. Then I came home from a few weeks on the road and he had white on his ears. There is a pullet like him then another black green tinted pullet with no white. Then a black sex-link pullet. I have a lone Silver Phoenix roo, and a few assorted pullets that Im not sure of what they are. I have pictures I can e-mail you if you wish. I can't post :cool:them here I'm on my phone. If I e-mail you and you're not interested in them you can post them here. I don't mind. They will all be 4 months old July 24. They were hand raised in the house. Some will eat out of your hand. The orloffs jump up on my knee when I'm outside. And they don't mind being held once you catch them. That's all I can think of. Any questions? Just thought I'd offer them to my neighbors here first before trying elsewhere

It is a respiratory problem. The little girl is coughing and has stringy mucous in her little beak. The neighbor is going to keep her separated and treat the whole flock with terramycin.

I hope it does not spread. Maybe she just got fluid in her lungs drinking too much water or drinking too quickly or something strange like that. Maybe all that rain has something to do with it. I have heard of that happening before.

Try giving her some Apple Cider vinegar in her water too. I've done it to help clear mucus in the airway. It worked after only a few times. Mine had Pox last year. I had one bird that had a hard time, but most everyone sailed through easily. The ACV helped a lot.
