Arkansas folks speak up.........

Thanks for the group hug. Hopefully the people lurking in the background will pipe back in.

What happened was I had asked about something, don't even remember what now, and two people pm-ed with the comment of not to expect an answer or even be acknowledged from anyone in the Ark group.

BTW, Very cherry, I sent you a package for your dog with a glucosamine product in it. Whatever happended there?

Anyway, we aren't speaking to each other face to face so I guess sometimes we unintentionally talk over one another.

didn't get to water and food soon enough. They just never did act spunky and lively

If that was the reason. Try giving Grogel (sometimes places call it or Gro-gel) when you get them. Never found it locally, but I order it and keep it on hand. It's only like $3 for 100 doses. It gives them hydration, electrolytes, and nutrition all in one - it looks kina like lime jello. I give it to all my new hatches or chicks I get the first day I have them. They will eat it up and seem to do real well. Even the ones that are a little listless at first perk up.

luvarabhorses - I really don't think anybody on here would intentionally ignore someone. I try to check this several times a day when I am around and chime in. I do travel alot though so I am absent from the forum for lengths of time sometimes over a week or 2. I really try to answer when I can.

I think we are a nice little internet chicken family

Yes! I sent you a thank you note...not in the mail, just a PM. I gave it to her for a few days, but then said something to my vet and he wasn't convinced I should....but he's never been one to approve of anything HE didn't prescribe. He also doesn't like it when I tell him what is wrong with one of my cats or dogs when I bring them in. He wants to do the diagnosing, lol!

I'd been wanting to update everyone on Dixie's progress. We tried over 2 months of treatment and medicines with no change at all, the vet even gave up. She'd even developed a sore on her rump that not only wouldn't heal, but was getting larger each day. It was draining out this awful stuff and just kept enlarging, even after the infection cleared. She has no muscle left on that side!...no butt cheek! Her feet were cold and I guess dying. The vet told me we should take her off of the seroids, they weren't doing any good, and needed to start thinking about what was best for her.

Well, I quit the steroids, but gave the antibiotics one more shot, because I didn't want her to have this awful hole in her. He give me a refill, and after almost 2 weeks it just started closing, and closing fast. She also got a little movement in her back feet and they weren't cold anymore. Over the next 2 weeks or so, she started having peepee accidents, which she didn't before...she could only pee when her bladder was expressed. She also started being able to climb out of her rubbermaid tub, since she could now stand on her back legs when holding onto the side of the tub. Over the last few weeks, she's been able to walk a few steps, fall to the side, stand back up and balance and walk a little more, fall to the side, walk a bit more, fall a bit more......you get the idea! I can't believe the change. I don't understand it, I"m just glad it happened.

You know, I think those "pull-ups" she was doing on the side of that rubbermaid tub helped to strethen her legs a lot, plus we were giving her the water therapy. She won't sit still now! We have to watch her, or she'll be across the room and into something, lol!

I've heard of that! I'd like to get some. I knew you could get it from some of the hatcheries when you order chicks, but I didn't realise you could just order it. I'd love to have it on hand.

Scot, that is so cool! I didn't realise it had the probiotics in it too. I'll be sure to order some before next Spring. These are the last little ones I'll have this year, except for a few eggs I have in the bator that were a bit on the old side, but I thought I'd try them. Last time I did that I only had 3 hatch out of more than a dozen eggs. I was about to toss these, and then a friend had 4 eggs she wanted hatched, so I thought I'd give these a shot while I had the bator running. My Marans hen has slowed way down and is only laying 1 or 2 a week now, so only 2 of mine were even fresh. We'll see.

Hiya from Sherwood! (right next to North Little Rock) Its always nice to see people from your neck of the woods. Im a beginner so I need all of the support I can get!

Welcome Urban Dreamer. We live in NLR so I guess I will say - HOWDY NEIGHBOR! We have a bustling backyard flock with chickens, ducks, and soon quail. We are right in the city. What kind of birds do you have over there in Sherwood? I remember seeing something on the news where someone was getting in trouble for having ducks, not sure Sherwood's policy on chickens. Are you legal or a Sherwood forest bandit like Robin Hood?
