Arkansas folks speak up.........

I am sorry to hear about your roof and trees Michelle. I am sick of this weather. It's reeking havoc all over. Thank GOD we have not had any real damage to property. We lost power once. It went off for one night while when it was raining. The power came back on but started blinking on and off as the wind blew. I knew that was not normal. So I went out and visually started looking at the line. It was apparent that what happened was lightning hit the transformer and it melted the sheathing on the cable that comes into our house. It was causing it to arc. Good thing is here is the city is our power company, I called and they got here within 10 minutes. It was fixed in less than an hour. They are always Johnny on the spot.

That was over a week ago. Bad thing is we lost some of the eggs in the bator. Some made it though. Yesterday was day 18 so when I took them out of the turner I candled them. About half were at still going strong the others looked like they should have a week ago with no movement. I decided to remove them. I cracked them just to see and sure enough they had died.

We try not to get caught up in the lingo we call them what they look like, it's just easier for non chicken folks. I know technically what they are called, but unless I am selling them or posting about them there is no real need to be all technical. Most people look at me strange if I say we have a blue or lavender chicken

They say that is gray and light gray man, go get your eyes checked

We went to the fair yesterday, only chickens were in that little FFA barn and tent. They had probably about 2 dozen adult birds and tons of chicks and ducklings. They were hatching as well in there. None were for judging though, it was an educational exhibit.

GRRRRR....when I left work on my lunch break, I walked outside and I thought someone spit on me...nope, just this nasty dreary weather! So tired of the rain. Really need it to dry up some so I can clean coops before it gets too cold!

School is letting out at 1:30 because the rain is making roads impassible. This has officially become rediculous!

I hate this rain. I feel like doing nothing. My floors are a MESS. My dog stinks. My chickens look like drowned rats and they are taking refuge on the front porch which means there will be lots of POO to clean up. My backyard looks like you could ski in it.

I had to go out and dump water off the turkey tent and tighten things up and change out the Jap's shavings that were way overdue, made it halfway to work and realized in the middle of a blinding downpour, that even if I made it to work, there was no guarantee I would make it back home tonight. So I turned around and came home. From 8 this am till I got back home about 1 it had rained 1-1/2 inches at my house. And my road had gone under water, along with about half of McGehee. It has finally rained enough to keep my buckeyes in the coop. Not so for the turkeys. They go under their tent during the worst downpours, otherwise they are out there in it. Boy do they look sorry!

Was at my mother in law's today. They have a creek in their backyard that floods somewhat under normal circumstances.
The driveway that borders/is part of their property (goes to the property behind them) had turned into a river and the property that it goes to looks like a lake.
MIL's house isn't faring well either, water is going in the backyard and is coming out from under their crawlspace in the garage area. Their crappy landlord didn't want to do much about it before it started raining. Should be interesting to see what happens when the house floods Maybe that's what he's waiting for.

Fortunately I live at the top of the grade (it's not really a hill, but I guess some might call it that) so while my birds look like drowned rats, my yard isn't a lake (yet).
Roads, especially intersections are all underwater all over town and I can only immagine what it must be like further out on the country roads.

I'm so sorry to hear about everyone's flooding...that's awful.

Please be careful everyone. It really is nasty out there.

I do have pics of the new babies. Please excuse the mess, this weekend is slated for cleaning everything....

Yay, Im not the only one thinking about building an ark! My poor hens look so sad, soaked to the bone. Im sorry to hear about all of the babies that didn't make it but I am happy that some did too. Eva is walking more and more on her leg. Which helps to motivate me to build that bigger coop. I will have it done by thanksgiven. And it will be waterproof! I don't think I will make it to the fair after all. I have come down with a cold from working outside. I hope I will be better before this weekend. Stay warm everybody, this rain ain't gonna let up soon.
