Arkansas folks speak up.........

Nope, didn't hear about the tornadoes, but I don't watch the news/weather either so I'm not surprised that I hadn't heard. Glad it was just trees and stuff.

I have very low blood pressure and almost no body fat. I don't *do* cold weather at all.
I never set the a/c below 75*F and most people think that's too hot.
I wish I could afford to keep the heat that warm in the winter! lol That's what warm clothes are made for - I'm never just wearing one shirt if the temp is below 70 :p

Mz- congrats on the new chicks!!!

Well the chickens don't get to the fair until Tuesday. That was a big disappointment. I guess we showed up for boar goat day because that was the only breed of goat there. We had a nice conversation about alpine goats with a lady that sells goat milk soap. Our dairy goat and source of milk, ice cream, yogurt, cheese and soap is an alpine. She has wonderful tasting milk and a nice personality.

Boy the rain! It runs from the tex/ark border all the way to the east coast. We spent the day yesterday on a mushroom foray, at least there wasn't rain. We got a few black chanterelles and very few reds, and a couple of several other varieties that I can't remember the name of. It's a good thing we don't rely on my memory to identify the edibles; we would go hungry or die of mushroom poisoning. My daughter wants me to go the fair with her to take the grandson. I made sure she understood it was going to be raining, probably all day, the open class wasn't there yet, so I was going strictly as a favor to her. Maybe the rain will let up by this afternoon.

For the love of everything good and holy, when is the rain gonna stop?!? I am so tired of being wet.
Yesterday I had the "hens don't need a rooster" talk with my mom. She is the crazy cat lady on the block and dosen't have a clue about chickens and asks a million questions. She asked me to explain to her what a barred rock looked like. I showed her a picture of one and she said "Oh look! A tabby chicken!"
Tuesday I will try to make it to the fair if the weather lets up.

Yay, another mushroom person! I found some yellow chantrelles in our yard this year, but we didn't eat any because I have misplaced my mushroom I.D. book. I'm pretty sure I know what they look like, but need to be 100% sure anyway. I would love to go mushroom hunting sometime. I haven't been since I was a teenager. Most people think I'm crazy when I let my kids eat edible plants from the woods.

One thing this rain is good for is mushrooms.

Funny how we all use the lingo we understand. I once called my husband from WalMart and asked him which light covers he wanted - white or buff.

Tabby! lol We call that tiger at this house.

I told my mom that my half Barred chick's mom was a "Zebra colored chicken" though

I know about using the "lingo" because my in-laws work at Wal-Mart and I used to, so sometimes I call things by WM terms because I know that's what they will understand.

It ripped the roof off our back porch, carried it up over the house and it landed in two pieces in the front yard. Lots of trees down in our woods. One big Oak tree took down our power lines, tried to get up our road and the trees were down on the power lines all over the place. We had no power for 3 days in most of our county. I had six pekin eggs on their last three days in the incubator, they should have hatched yesterday , I just candled and no movement at all. Poor babies, it breaks my heart :-(

Michelle- sorry to here about your babies. Have you got your road cleared yet? Sorry I forgot, where are you located? We were without electricity once for 2 weeks. Glad I wasn't trying to hatch then.

I went to the fair yesterday because my daughter wanted to take her son and didn't want to go herself. Its between chicken shows, so there weren't any chickens, but he got to see some rabbits. Not much livestock there at all. At least the rides were all $1 all day.

According to the schedule, The open chickens don't start coming in till Wednesday afternoon and don't have to be in place until Thursday evening. I've been to Little Rock twice this week already, don't know if I can stand another trip.

In the mean time, more rain coming our way today. Get out the umbrellas and boots.
