Arkansas folks speak up.........

The cinnamon rolls I am making take a LONG time. I have to mix the dough and let it double, then roll it out and add the filling then roll it up and cut the rolls out, then the rolls have to rise and you can bake them. I had problems with the topping last time, it just sort of disappeared when I put it on. the rolls were kinda crusty like I baked them too long. So here goes my second attempt. I have my trusty assistant with me this time (my neice). I love baking in the fall.

I'll have to take some pics of my brooder later. Some of these babies like to sleep with their legs sticking out and it scares me when I first see them. I still haven't learned chicken CPR.

The auction was really good..... I didn't make it with my baby chicks there though. My company (Carroll County Solid Waste) was having it's annual free clean up right by where I was going, so I stopped in and one of our drivers wanted the babies so I gave them to him. My friends marans roosters did pretty well though.
I spent a little too much, but there was a guy there that just bought a feed store and had some feed, waterers, feeders, cattle stuff, goat stuff, etc. I bought 2 - 50lb bags of 21% medicated chick starter for $9 a bag. The guy said it was all fresh and the couple I usually sit with were the ones that told me he just bought the feed store. I hope the feed is ok, I'll check it real close before I feed it to the babies though. The metal chick feeders went for $2 a piece so I bought 3 of those. I had a good time, but didn't get home before dark.
I'll have to start cleaning the brooder case in the morning for the new chicks. I so hope they're ready to get tomorrow. I'm so excited!!!

19Dawn76....those cinn. rolls sound sooooo good !!!

jarhead.... I hope your wife doesn't mind if I copy her recipe, My dad actually taught me a long time ago how to make really good sausage gravy and I usually just use the bisquick mix for the biscuits. I need to try her recipe to have with the gravy....

She won't mind

I make the sausage gravy to go with them sometimes when she does the biscuits. mmm mmm good!

She will pretty much make them whenever I ask, she says they are one of the easiest things for her to make.

She said she does the square thing to reduce wast from cutting them into rounds, but you can if you like them round.

By the way I asked what she does different to the dough to make the dumplings. She said omit the sugar, add a pinch more salt, add chopped fresh herbs (optional) and fold it 10 times instead of 6, then roll it a little less than 1/4" thick or whatever you like and put into the hot broth until it is done (which she said take a few minutes but depends on how thick it is).

Had to stay up late to finish the laundry thanks to all this raining mid-week I had to do laundry at my in-law's house since I don't have a dryer and DH needed jeans for work today. Then I had to get up early today to put a starter on my truck before I could go to work (I deliver pizza so a working vehicle is required) It was a long day at work I think everyone came home from the fair and ordered a pizza tonight.
I'm soooo tired!

Got home and the temp had only dropped in the house all day, so I put the 250watt bulb (instead of 85watt) on the chicks. They all seemed perky and happy when I got home. I think they have finally forgotten about the car ride

That's good the chicks are doing well. I did something stupid when I got home from the auction. It was cold so I warmed up some coffee !!! Oh well, I'm sure I'll go to bed earlier tomorrow night.

Are you guys seriously talking about food again, lol! You crack me up!

Did you hear about our tornado? It really tore things up about 2 miles down the road from the farm. I only lost the top out of one of my big oaks, so I was lucky. I wasn't home and didn't even know until I was on my way home late that afternoon, and saw the mess everywhere. Huge piles of trees all over the place! Not too many structures were damaged since it's a rural area. I didn't have electricity and my incubator had been off all day! It was below 80 degrees and the humidity was 99!!! I ran the bator 15 miles down the road to a friends house with electricity and left it there. Hatch date was today. My friend called and so far I have 2 Marans chicks, Wheatens, and there is one more pipping. I have to work in a couple of hours so she and her kids are getting to watch. The kids are loving it! I'm not holding my breath for more chicks than three given the circumstances (I hope the third one does ok getting out), but I've got my fingers crossed anyway. Oh, and I do have electricity now. It came on late last night.

Guess where I went this afternoon? Starts with a K. They have Sushi! Yep, I got 8 trays of Sushi, and we ate two in the car on the way back, lol! I don't get to Kroger but about once a month, so I had to buy enough for several meals.

I also take anvantage of their shrimp special. You can get really top quality shrimp for $4.99, in a big 5 pound bag. It's frozen, oh, and it's already deveined. I think they have about the best around for the price. I rarely eat any meat except for seafood, so a don't mind buying a big bag when it's a good buy.

No, I hadn't heard about the tornado...I hope no one was hurt. I'm glad your chicks are hatching though. I'm glad you guys have power now and you're all ok. Hope the hatch is good.

We don't have a Kroger around here. I may have to keep my eyes open for one on my drives to see what all the talk is about though.

Don't give up on the chicks! I really thought my hatch was doomed because my temp ups and downs. Imagine my shock when they started popping out one after another!
