Arkansas folks speak up.........

I started 18 longcrower eggs in the incubator today. We only want 1 or two roosters, but I ordered a dozen off ebay, and he sent 18. He sent them by FedEx on Monday and I got them on Tuesday. Crossing my fingers they had a good ride, none were broken. Anyway, if I have a good hatch, I'll have a bunch of longcrowers to get rid of. Keep that in mind in about 6 to 8 weeks.

Longcrowers, just what I need to get in real good with my husband!

Hey Wrangler,
I'm in Havana...just round the bend and over the mountain from ya. Did I hear you use to live in Jasper? My kin folk is in Newton County. Stay away from the shine...that stuff is potent. BTW, what kind of chickens are you growin? got any geese or ducks? Later.

Yesterday and Today the adult pullets escaped. Poor Mr Rooster "Big Man" was left standing at the fence staring out at fluffy butts as they left.
I was pretty sure they weren't flying out, but was gonna double-check wing feathers when they wen to bed. Today DH saw them coming back in - UNDER the fence!!!
The back fence is ancient welded wire that is covered over in privet and other greens. My dog can't get out it and nothing bigger than a cat has ever come in it - but apparently the chickens dug a little hole where the fence already didn't quite meet the ground and they squeezed right through! Poor Rooster was too big to fit!
I attached another piece of wire, and put a board over it too, so they had better stay in or else I'm gonna be mad!
We're gonna hafta re-fence the back eventually, but not this weekend.

I don't know what is on the other side of your back fence but be very careful. Sometimes there are loose dogs around in any neighborhood wether it is country or in town. and there are other things "over the back fence" that can do them harm too. It's good that your DH put up more fence to cover the old and put a board down too which is good. Hopefully they will go back there and see that they can't get out and won't try and scratch under the board! WOW, I see that there really ARE people here in Arkansas on this board! That's really awesome. I live so far out that sometime I actually forget that I've got neighbors....good luck on the chickens.
