Arkansas folks speak up.........

I see you got the pm. In response to your question, check this link. There are about 7% on here, according to that poll, that raise chickens for meat or meat and eggs. Meat birds is an allowed topic, but if you post pictures with it, you might put the word "Graphic" in quotes in the subject title. There are several young people on this site and some older people would appreciate the warning.

I have Bourbon Reds, Royal Palms, and a cross of the two. The crosses are really pretty, but if you cross them you can get everything from BR to RP and everything inbetween. I also have one RP that came out all white (hatchery) So depending on what you want, I might be able to fix you up. They are about 6 1/2 months old right now, and everything I'm not keeping for breeding will go in the freezer. The crosses are actually bigger than either BR or RP. Here's my RP toms doing there thing. The tails are a mess this year. I kept the younger ones penned too long, and then the awful weather hasn't helped anything.

jenjscott....I watched the youtube on the crowing !!!! Wow - he has a set of lungs. The turkeys look great. We don't have the room here but it would be handy for the winter season to have some.

angel1...Welcome to BYC...it's a great place to visit with others and learn A LOT. Have fun

ridgerunner....I did a lot of research on worming (schedule vs. needed) and found what you said, "...different setups, different reasons...". I am like you, I have to keep my birds in their pens - I can keep a close eye on them but I also wanted to "head off" any potential issues so I'm going with the Spring and Fall scenario. That may change but for now that's what I'm comfortable with. I guess that's the important part - what each person is comfortable with.

Well, I maxed out my chicken limit. I now have in my backyard two barred rocks and two easter eggers. I will keep them away from my established flock unitl December 7. The 1 year old looks like a blue weaten (?) them other, idk (partridge mabey?) I was so happy to see some of the birds I have been reading about. I got to hold a chick for the first time, saw an actual rooster and I saw my first banties! I had so much fun! Thanks to Amanda and Lisa for the EEs.
