Arkansas folks speak up.........

Eww Laura! I saw 11 on the Rogers area! All we can do is what we can do. I know what you mean about the bitter cold. I can't find my gloves for the life of me!

I had a problem of a different sort tonight. I have 3 CM hens and 1 CM roo, penned with a cochin/ee bantam mix trio, so that's 5 hens. Mr. Stinkerbeau Banty Boy has decided that he's the biggest rooster in the pen now so all the hens belong to him. He's a mighty half size of my Cuckoo Maran boy, however he has beat my Maran Man half to death! Today I found blood on my Maran's neck and his comb has been annihilated.....ok, well it's pretty bloody. I saw him being aggressive with my big roo yesterday, but just laughed cause I thought it was funny and Stinkerbeau was about to get his. Then today I went out to feed and water and he was chasing my big Maran all over the pen and pecking and pecking, jumping, etc...so I let everyone but the banty roo out to free range this evening and then before I let them back in, I stuffed him in a cat box with hay and put him in the coop with the others. Hopefully by segragating him, he'll learn the wickedness of his ways, because that Maran boy is much more valuable to me that that Stinkerbeau anyday.

OH, my yes, cold this morning. ChickyTocks, several pair of socks on the hands help. Make manual dexterity a little low, but avoids the frostbite. I feel for you Laura, hope you have a lot of fire wood, put the sleeping bag on the couch.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's 13 here at 9 a.m. Too cold for me!

I had to go down to the pens this morning with hot water to defrost the waterers, reached down to move a metal feeder by the handle and it stuck to my hand (no gloves)! It sure did sting. I didn't even think of that happening, so I'm giving you all a heads up.

Oh, and don't go licking any flagpoles either, lol!

Good morning and brrrrr!

All the chickens survived the night and got a spot of hot tea this morning. (warm water), extra scratch. Stinkerbeau is still in the box, he was served in an ice cube tray that I split half warm water and the other half food. I'll let him out this evening and observe. If he get's all cocky again, I'm going to let my BCM out of their confines and put them with the Cuckoos and put Stinkerbeau in their split side of the coop. I might actually just split him off with his two cochin/ee hens. Since that's a trio that I have up for grabs. Ya know....the more I think about that...none of the cuckoos are the dominants, it's the cochins, so that might be an excellent way to integrate the BCM.

Stay warm and have an excellent day.

LOL, it's 1 degree here with a -15 windchill @ 9:30 AM. Our sweet HVAC guy came out last night at 6:30, in the COLD & dark, to put on the new blower motor!! Whoohoo, we have heat! With 2 little ones, it's a little tougher than with just us
