We will be showing. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. They have picked an excellent judge. Pat Malone is our APA District Director and former President of the APA.

Novice:a person who is new to or inexperienced in a certain task, situation, etc.; beginner;
jenscott: a breeder who won Best of Breed Japanese Bantam, Mottled Hen: American Poultry Association 2010 National, Japanese Bantam Breeders Association. Class of 200 entries.
Hmmm????? I think what Ann was thinking is that ANYONE who wins Best of Breed with 200 birds in the breed present IS NOT A NOVICE. Jen had the nerve to even ask Ann at Shawnee if she could still show as a Novice! We had a lot of fun with this at Shawnee. She would not listen to me or Buffbeauty when we told her, so she asked Ann. Ann said something like, I don't think so!
Lets see, who also won Best of Breed Buckeye at Shawnee? It was not a Novice!
For those who have not met Jen, you must come down to the Big Bird Classic at Pine Bluff and meet her. My 4H club thinks she is wonderful and I guess I have to agree!

I have never been to a bird show! what all does the show consist of besides showing your birds? Is there vendors, anyone selling anything, entertainment, t-shirts stuff like that? Chicks for sale? Auction?....lol

Sorry everyone, I have been outside enjoying some sun and taking care of birds or I would have got to this subject sooner.
The Big Bird Classic has a definition for "NOVICE" as applies to our shows. It was posted at the website last year to avoid any confusion before the first Big Bird Classic was held.
If you go to BigBirdShows.com and click on the work NOVICE it will take you to a page just for Novice exhibitors. By definition, in regard to our poultry shows . . . "to qualify for Novice Awards at the Big Bird Classic you must have never earned any APA or ABA exhibitor points or ABA Starred Wins (to the best of your knowledge)."
Jen did not earn any APA points with her big win in the Japs at Shawnee - but she did earn an ABA Starred Win! Congrats Jen! : ) So , no, she no longer qualifies as a Novice for the purposes of the Big Bird Classic. And, that is quite an accomplishment in just one year of showing!
