Sexing Golden Cuckoos...

If you have a keen eye, you can even make a good guess as to your new babies' sex with barred chickens like the Golden Cuckoo Marans. Males will have a larger, lighter spot on their heads, and lighter colored legs, too. Females will have a smaller, darker spot on their heads, and will have darker legs. (These will be clean-legged chicks).

My picture taking skills stink, but the one on the left is a little boy. He has a big spot on top of his head and his body looks silvery. The little girl has a smaller spot on her head and is pretty much black.

I know you can sex the Cuckoos and Goldens, but I don't think BC can be sexed early and I don't know about the Wheatens at all.


Watch about how you say, "any chickens". That is why my husband is setting up so many runs, LOL.

My Golden Cuckoo Marans are very different. It's easy to tell the hens from roos, except with one. Here's what I mean

The light silvery ones are the roosters, the copper colored and black ones are hens. The odd man out is ????? If I understand it right, the copper pullets will feather out with better color than the black ones. I got this from another thread on here.

Here is the roo and copper pullet. The roos are beautiful!

A young boy came today to pick up my ducks I gave away. I changed the water in the pen this morning and it is still clean. I don't think I'm going to miss them at all.

Haha! I learned very quickly to give my ducks their own pen away from the chickens. I have 3 Pekin and 3 Rouen and an egg in the incubator. They have their own pen and a Koi Pond to get all mucky!

I've been working on setting up a webcam to watch my eggs while I'm at work. Today is day 19 and I know they'll be hatching while I'm at work

so I had to figure something out. My webcam isn't the best, but at least I'll be able to see a black fuzzy blob if one pops out!

I'll post a link to it in the morning when I bring it online before I leave for work.
