Arkansas folks speak up.........

I have 4 Australorp hens. They are the bomb. Best laying birds of all the ones I have. They have laid all winter so far. I have a little banty that was determined to sit an egg around Christmas. I think she would have tried to hatch a golf ball. She was very determined and stubborn, so I added 4 more eggs under her. She hatched them all. At 3 weeks, they are almost as big as she is. They are 1/2 Australorp and BCM or Ameracauna.
I have been looking and looking for some BCM hens and an Ameracauna hen or 2. No luck from my area so far. Shipping for hatching eggs is a little out of my reach right now.
You are very fortunate to have someone who is willing to help you like that. Congratulations on your new place and your newest addiction. They are addicting! Lol!
Where are you located?

Does anyone here raise geese? I'm considering getting a breeding pair but I don't know how much demand there is for them. Also, does anyone know where there is a restaurant that serves goose?

Hello from Little Flock (Rogers)! Thanks to Ridgerunner for directing me here. I'm new to BYC and to chickens, we're waiting on our first ever chicks to arrive in May, we have 11 chicks on order. Trying to learn as much as possible before they get here! Feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

Geese require a bit more room than chickens, but less hands on. 90%+ of a goose diet is grass/weeds. Some geese can be or get mean. But they can be retrained. Below is Danyelle (13) retraining a gander. We bought it about a week before the photo was taken. You will enjoy watching the geese. The will act as guard dogs for the chickens. However, if a full grown rooster gets in their way, they will grab its wing and toss it aside. The chickens learn to respect geese.

What breed are you thinking of getting? Post photos! Here are some of ours.

You should be WARNED about John! He is an enabler to addiction.... chicken addiction

. Steer clear of him! Or at least do not look into his eyes!

Definitely do not accept any invitation to see his birds. He has some of the best Heritage chickens I have ever seen! I adore Orpingtons, but his New Hampshires

are almost good enough to make me want some. There are several folks in NWA that will be happy to help you along.

John is just one of them. They also have a poultry auction in that area. He can give you that info.

Just remember, don't look him or his beautiful goats in the eye! Otherwise, you will be hooked!
