Arkansas folks speak up.........

It was night and im pretty sure i have it all on video from my security system. I have to check my system to see it my cameras were close enough.

Update. it is daylight now. I have found 3 of 4 orps. they are a bit tore up, but the mean orp roosters spurs and body is bloody. I am guessing from spurring the dog. i guess the dogs did not kill most of the orps, just attacked them.

Groundpecker -I'm sorry to hear this! How horrible! At least most of them are safe and sound, I'm sending good thoughts to you.

I came on here so I can share my good news-I have 4 chicks hatched and two more almost done. This is my first hatching so I am super excited. They're 27 eggs in there so who knows how many I will have?

Plz keep us updated on how you're doing....sounds like a good idea in making sure you have evidence on the dogs, I don't trust the law doing the right thing for good citizens. Better be safe than sorry. :hugs

Good morning, fellow Arkansas folks! Many chicken chores to be done today: clean coops, prepare brooder for shipped chicks that are to arrive this week, candle eggs in the bator. Whew!

I had some chicken chores planned for this morning too. Unfortunately, is raining here, so some of them may have to wait for another sunny day. I probably spent too much time outside playing on Saturday, but I just couldn't resist the urge to "play."

Looks like 3 will survive. I found the mangled body of the 4th orp yesterday. People around here usually take care of bad animals without having the sheriff involved.

We have had a few city folk move in the area the past few years. Most do not know the "unspoken" rules of living around here. If your dogs are unruly, they will get shot. Sheriff will usually do nothing unless major damage is done or human threats are involved.

Me too. Yesterday was just too nice to not go on a motorcycle ride! But, I HAVE to get that brooder set up at the very least.

Yeah, my neighbors have mentioned on their own without me prompting them in any way that if their dogs bother my chickens, just shoot them. I think a couple of them kinda wish I would but I won't get their wives and kids mad at me unless I really have a reason.

One risk is hunters with dogs that really can’t control where they go since dogs can’t read or respect property lines. I ran into a guy at Tractor Supply that said he got $12,000 for his dog when someone shot it. He just turned and walked away when I asked him what I’m supposed to do when they are killing my livestock. Some people just can’t see the other side.

The other risk is just what you said, someone moving out here that does not understand how these things have been handled forever. That’s why you need to protect yourself and document what happened. But I guarantee the first thing I grab is my gun, not the camera.

It’s raining here too so I won’t be doing anything outside. I can’t say I played yesterday but it sure seemed like play. I didn’t do anything all that major, just went around doing a lot of little things outside that needed fixing. Looks like it will be a few days before it will be that nice again.

13 babies have popped out since yesterday. Still have some eggs in the bator so may have more to come. I'm now trying to teach them to drink and eat. Everyone is doing great, wish it was nicer -really enjoyed yesterday.

Groundpecker-I'm sorry about your orps but it could have been worse. My daughter's dog has done a really nice job keeping the other animals out of the yard. I guess we are really lucky that we've not had any loses. I know we will eventually but I hope it will be long time away. Hope everyone has a nice lazy day afternoon.

took some pictures today of my mixed flock, none for sale, and nothing too special, but i figured i'd share a few anyway

black copper and blue copper marans, silver laced wyandottes, 5-8 weeks old

appenzeller spitzhaubens, bout 6-7 weeks

anyone know what kinda rabbit we are?
