He's very pretty. They had a lot of chickens that looked like EE crosses. I even saw one rooster that looked exactly like a Rhode Island Red, except he had a black beard.

Woohoo! Would you look at all of these Arkansas peoples! I'm another one in Benton.
I've been skulking around these forums for a couple of weeks now and looking for a place to jump in. First post!

My husband and I have had at least a half a dozen hens for almost 13 years now...(yeah, um, different ones of course). Currently we have four buff orps that should be laying in another month. We have a sweet little six acre, 1/2 wooded plot of land and I've recently convinced him that we need more chickens. This means that he will need to build at least three chicken tractors for them. My weinerschnappers can't be trusted, they've taken out my ducks, not to mention there are other critters like raccoons and possums around that have preyed on my featherbabies.

I love ameracaunas and want to try my hand at hatching at least six of them. This forum has me all excited, seeing how everyone is hatching babies, I just have to try this! I've always purchased pullets in the past. I've been studying very hard, and I'm going to purchase the stuff to make a homemade incubator this week. If anyone near me knows where I can find some fertile ameracauna eggs, please send me a pm!

And it's nice to find so many people close to home.

I look forward to learning lots from you all!

Where is your property in Benton? Some pretty places outside of Benton. My grandparents had a large place out off of hwy 5. Had a nice spring fed pond and lots of wood for us to explore. It backed up to the river. I spent my summers there working on that farm. Cows, hogs, chickens, and horses. On top of that he ran a hay service and we would do that all around the area. Lots of good memories out there. After he passed my grandmother sold the place. I really wish I had been in Arkansas at the time, I would have tried to talk her out of selling it or at least tried to buy it from her. Lots of wonderful memories there. At the time I was in the Corps and half a world away

Well Scot I could only wish I were on that side of the freeway! There are a lot of beautiful farm areas on that side. I'm on the Alcoa side of Benton, not far at all from Military, but far enough that we are lucky enough to have one of the last wooded lots this close to town. I've always had farm animals including horses, goats, rabbits and chickens, but I married a man who's mom was a city girl so he didn't get his country roots until a couple of years before we met, and although he promised me horses when we married, I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably never get them. I was baited! He's balking about building me a couple of chicken tractors, afterall he's already built me a full blown coop, but it's only comfortable enough for half a dozen chickens and I want my girls to have grass. I want a small flock...with a roo....and if we get more roos after I start hatching, well they might come in handy in this crazy economy!

Mr. James at Lazy J Poultry sell Americana chicks. I have never asked him about selling eggs. He's at the end of Springhill Rd in Bryant.
