Arkansas folks speak up.........

Personally I'm sick of sloppy runs. I have invested so much in shavings this year, I should have took out stock!

I'm with you. Now it looks like flies are coming in.

We've been lucky so far, only some dead trees snapped, just means chainsaw will get another workout. Coop run is holding up as well as you can expect with the monsoon season in full swing. This shaking of the earth is a powerful thing, it seems that every thing weather is falling back one month from what used to be normal.

My biggest bother is our driveway (road) I am going to have to do a lot of work on it now. All the rain has done is build river beds where there were none before.

I'm having a bit of a problem with flies here. I live in Arkansas (Jackson County). I blame it on all this rain

. I saw somewhere on this site that the vanilla scented tree shaped car fresheners repelled them, so now I have them hanging all over my porch and coop. I have seen a difference in the coop. It seems like I don't have hardly any around there now. It may be worth a try if you can stand that smell.

I will have to try that! We usually run a fan by the back door because the flies and mosquito are so bad.

I'm with you in this. I wait a day or tel then put out rice hulls, they help soak up the water and moisture. This isn't helping much right now cause about the time you get them out here comes tge rain again. Be so glad when it's over. I'm going to try for a garden since I didn't get to plant kne for spring.

I pulled the rest of the eggs that I was incubating. 20-12 were not fertile, 8 had chicks but all dead, 2 of the 8 had started hatching but died before they hatched.

So here were the percentages:
Set: 37
Hatched: 17 45.945%
Fertile Eggs: 25
Fertility: 67.567%
So the actual hatch percentage of fertile eggs was over all: 68%.

Hi, guys. I'm just checking in as a favor for a neighbor and see how everyone is doing out there is the swamp that is the state of Arkansas.

I hatched a bunch of marans from a variety pack here on BYC just before I was told I had to get rid of all my birds. I gave them to my neighbor. He now has 17+ purebred Marans of various colors at POL. They are right at 4 months old. If anyone is interested, PM me. He wants $25 for a pair, $40 for a trio and $55 for a quad. I am going to get pictures tomorrow night if it is still clear to where I can. We live near Fort Smith.

Puddin & Draye hope things are going well and dry out for you. I'm almost glad I don't have any birds right now because mine would have been crawdads by now in holes in the mud as wet as my back pasture is.

So glad to hear from you. Things are going okay for me here. I've sold off almost everything but my Naked Necks. I kept a few non NN for added color right now.

My runs are pretty messy right now throwing out rice hulls to help dry it up but seems like as soon as it starts to dry a little here's comes the rain again .
