roche... sorry about your silkie, sounds like it has a deformity. I feel your pain. I've had 0 hatches out of 2 batches of showgirls, and 1 other silkie group. I have some silkies in the incubator now, but I'm not sure if they'll make it. The temp won't stay constant and keeps slipping up. I'm taking this incubator back after these eggs hatch. Out of something like 40+ eggs I have one silkie (that is the neighbor girl's) and one showgirl. Disheartening!!

I think I'm going to order the genesis 1588.

Hopefully that little silkie will pull trough, sounds like you are doing what you can.

LR airport has free wifi, which is even better.

Most airports make you pay for it these days.

I made a huge mistake. I bought some chick starter from a different place and didn't pay attention to the tag on it. It was medicated. I went to buy more today and noticed the tag on it! I am so stupid!

I hope that isn't why I've had a couple of chicks get sick on me and die.

I went back to the first store I used to buy from and got a bag of unmedicated and changed all my feeders out.

I doubt the medicated feed caused your chicks to get sick or will cause them to. More people use medicated than unmedicated. My local feed store only carries medicated, I have to go to TSC or buy game bird conditioner from the feed store. I don't like the medicated stuff either and never use it. My reason is to keep the chicks having a strong and healthy immune system, and to keep the meds out of eggs and meat for us.

The 3 above were hatched on 4/13/09

All will be $5 except for the mixed little roo, who will be free. He is a randy little guy, he was jumping on the back of one of our silkies this morning!

Congrats on the ducks! They are soooo cute. I want to get a few some day, but have so much other stuff to take care of first.

I'm going to try hard to come. I'd like to get your hen!

I've sold some chicks and chickens lately, but then found myself too short on hens for the amount of roosters I have. A few of the hens I really didn't want to sell, but my friend needed some and I let her buy a few. Then about 2 months later, just recently, 2 of the 3 hens I sold her were killed by a neighbors dog.

It was so sad.

She lost some chickens her sister sold her too, a total of 13 chickens. The neighbor had promised to keep the dog up after killing my friends baby goat a while back, but my friend had gone camping with her family and the neighbor wanted to let the dog run around awhile while they were away and wouldn't find out. It amazes me how stupid some people be!

My 11 year old daughter Jill, who was very fond of those chickens, found out about it and wanted to go over there and kill the dog right then! She's very protective of her babies. This is the same daughter that put our little sex-link out of her misery after she got bit on the head and neck by a racoon a few weeks ago....by herself. She's a tough little cookie!​
